N4 availability
LG and Google have engineered the worst launch of a new product I've ever seen - why didn't these clever people realise a top spec mobile at half the price of lesser competition would sell like hot cakes??
Has anyone on these pages have any idea when there will be stock in UK ? |

£399 for a phone costing £240 from direct from the manufacturer ? ... Well yes, I'm funny like that.
I don't see how a phone sold by the manufacturer at £240 can be seen as discounting, surely CPW et al are simply profiteering? |

The iPhone 5 costs $170 to make an retails uk for £499, it's all about profiteering. Each phone cost more than the some of its parts, each part is manufactured, then packed, then shipped to an assembly plant. Then it's assembled and and packaged and shipped to distribution warehouses. It is then shipped world wide and again finds it self in major hub. It's then shipped to retailers hubs, it's then shipped to stores. Each stage of the process incures, wages, fuel costs, storage costs, insurance, ect ect. To get a nexus 4 to you house from the manufacturer can equal the cost building it. Every single person/company form couriers/shipping company to storage warehouses, the manufacturer, the retailer all want profit on there part of the process. Every single part of your phone is profit for someone, from the tiniest resistor, smallest drop of solder, the screen the wifi chip the battery cover. |

plus in the UK its (relatively) rare for people to buy a phone and then separately pick up a SIM.
This is the first phone that im aware of that has been so aggressively priced to make it SO cost effective to buy separately ...... Plus the 'Google' and 'Nexus' brands have been quietly building up with regards to hardware - I guess the amount of brand knowledge maybe caught them by surprise ...... To be honest they havent even done a huge amount of advertising ..... |

That cannot be right? $62? That seems way too low if you consider the cost of all the components.

I wonder if its a fix.
Lg or google massively underestimated the demand for the device and realised they could make more money out of it and so have limited supply through the play store but the retailers seem to have stock. All very strange if you ask me. As it stands its in googles favour if they are out of stock in the play store as I would like to bet they see more profit for units sold in retail outlets. |

LG clearly don't have stock issues in their regular retail channels. It's only supply to Google that's been erratic. I don't see how Google would benefit from the current situation as LG make the phone, not Google. |

Wish I can find it but over at XDA they found out via serial numbers that production was small and was scaled up big time in December.
Google are the worse company when it comes to,product launches. The Nexus Charging orb hast made it to production even when it was used to sell the phone!! |

There is a article here saying only 400k units were made in 2012.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology...-4-phone-sales My guess is that google deliberately restricted the number of handsets available without contract so are not to upset the carriers. |

the £279 is heavily subsidised by google.

It may well be going exactly as Google had planned - create a huge demand and those that can't wait may well pay the full regular price. It's win-win for Google.
I'm sure some people end up gettng another phone entirely but I wonder how many people are aware that you can buy this phone directly (and cheaply) from Google or do most people just end up buying a contract phone from the usual suppliers/providers and so buying a sim free discounted phone doesn't even come into their buying decision? |

I've got bored of waiting for the N4, I've just bought an Acer Liquid Glow for £129 from Expansys.
Yes, thank you ... I know it's a stupid name! Pretty much standard ICS, 512Mb RAM, 5MP camera ... Not the latest whiz bang mobile but it'll do for a while |
