That didn't work for me with my 4s, according to the email I received I didn't pass the security check

However I rang them and 5 minutes later I received email confirmation that the phone was unlocked (minus £15 of credit on the sim)

That link is for O2 contract phones. I've used it for previous 3G, 4 and 4S models and it worked each time and was free (still in contract).

The only potential issue is if O2 say they're not unlocking iPhone 5s yet, which they did for the first few months with the 4S.

I bought my phone (apparently unlocked) from ebay new & sealed but it was locked to o2 and because it hadn't been activated I had to pay the fee (well the seller did) but like I've said the online form was declined on a security check, although I was quite impressed with how fast I got the 'unlocked' confirmation email after speaking to them

So how did they unlock it? Was it through O2, or some other way?

Even though the phone had never been activated it was locked to the o2 network, I just rang them as I've mentioned and they took £15 of credit from the sim and all was done. I thought I'd have to wait days for it to be done and couldn't believe it when I received the unlocked email within 5 minutes!

As grumpyoldbat has said, they may not be unlocking the iphone 5 yet...

Oh sorry, I assumed you were saying you bought an iPhone 5.
