I saw something that made me laugh at Christmas which was on Channel 4 called Gadget Man-Christmas Special with Stephen Fry. It was a clip of about 1m 15s long which featured a toy that was big at the end of the 1970's called 'Clackers'.
I decided it would be great to copy it and put it on YouTube.
My video has been allowed but is not viewable or searchable to be viewed in the UK, Isle Of Man, Channel Islands or the Republic Of Ireland.
I made no reference in the title or description to either Channel 4, Gadget Man, Christmas Special or Stephen Fry or any combination. I realise obviously that copying a programme directly like that is infringing copyrights but somehow other people must get away with it with the amount of TV clips on YouTube.
I uploaded loads of BBC and ITV regional news clips for different TV regions' Digital TV Switchover over the last 2-3 years which have all been allowed for worldwide viewing so how come this Gadget Man clip wasn't allowed?
How does YouTube detect after you have finished uploading a video that you have uploaded something that needs copyright permission?
Is there a way of getting round this?
On a similar note, how do moderators on internet forums such as this and the BBC Messageboard know if you have broken any rules almost instantaneously?
I'd be interested to knowing more.
Thanks in advance.
