Frozen chips all different sizes...really annoying!
I really hate that in a bag of frozen chips all the chips come in loads of different sizes. This works ok for the first few servings cos I just pick out ones that are similar sizes, but then I end up with chips of all different sizes left so I can't really used them as the dog ends will take half the amount of time than the others left. Sometimes I will break really big ones in half, but the tiny dog end ones are useless.
I know potatoes come in different sizes but I think they should be cut to more uniform sizes when made into chips so to ensure more even cooking times. Which bags of frozen chips do you find to have more consistency with sizes? I do sometimes make my own oven chips/wedges which are uniformly sized and gorgeous, but some days I just want the convenience of frozen chips. |

Hi VS,
I know what you mean from experience last night! We don't usually have freezer chips (because we don't usually have chips rather than the fact that they're freezer) but it was a potato emergency. Either the huge flobby ones stay flobby or the small mutant ones catch and burn. BTW it's probably just my scrambled post Sunday brunch brain, but if you pick out all the ones of the same size, doesn't that mean the leftovers are all the same size too? Actually just thought about it for the requisite 3 seconds and realised some of the leftovers are probably giant and some tiny. ![]() Anyway yes, to concur, I'm usually happy with irregular sized veg rather than homogenous, but in this case it's a pain.

I'm not a big chip eater and I don't have a deep fat fryer so it has to be oven chips on the rare occasions we do have them. I've found Aldi Maris Piper chunky chips to be quite good.

Unfortunately I do not have an Aldi near me but I do have a Lidl and may try some of their chips for size... |

What a waste but I can't see what else I can do with them. |
