An appreciation thread for the wonderful Goldfrapp!

I've always been a casual Goldfrapp fan, but last year I looked into their albums properly and discovered just how much I love them. Many hidden gems I knew nothing about.

Favourite single would have to be the sublime "Number 1" but they have so many 10/10 moments. What's everyone's favourite?

Discuss this electronic duo here!

I've always wanted to check them out. Thanks for the reminder!

EDIT: Listened to number 1, I really like it even though its not what I usually listen to. I'll definitely listen to more of their songs and might even buy one of their albums in the not too distant future

Goldfrapp are fantastic, they are one of my best gig experiences ever. Black Cherry and A&E are my faves.

Hoping for a new album this year.

Ah i love Alisons voice!

And the productions are so New Wavey/Synthpop beautiful!!

Whenever i hear their name as a band it takes me back to 2003 memories Loved that year was a soundtrack to my life...in fact because i loved Strict Machine so much Black Cherry was one of the very first albums i bought with my own saved pocket money (after buying Madonnas American Life prior to that actually)

Love Supernature too...A&E i must relisten to again didnt much like their recent album....but i must relisten to it again and reinvest in goldfrapp magic

Wonderful group! And, consistently good. Which is rare.
Really need a new album...

Currently my fav album is their last, which bizaarely stalled (to this day, I'll never understand why!?!). Seventh Tree was the slow grower for me, but I got round to it! Clowns is utterly compelling.

Who-ho ho- I've got-ta-roc-ket!

I saw them live for the first time last year at an interesting time ...they had just left the rec / rec problems (allegedly) .... and they were sublime! Spine tingling enchantingly good! I would love them to release new material. Their last album was great.... and 'Rocket' seemed to gain great radio and tv exposure yet failed to lift off. Maybe ahead of time. Sometimes, you re-listen to albums and realise that they are great but just released at the wrong time. Maybe this was the case. I just adore their sound, style and creativity. Pure Class. Strangely enough, I am currently enjoying Seventh Tree.... an album that at the time i liked but thought was a poor Felt Mountain ... but now really like in its own right!

Yet another artist we have in common. I love them too. My favourite album is Supernature followed closely by Black Cherry. I've seen them live a couple of times and they're always been amazing. I'm not as big on their slower albums like Felt Mountain.

oh yeah boiii!!!

That is slick....i heard Felt Mountain on YT i ful and Lovely Head is the standout i feel and Utopia is pretty endearing too but i do feel it is very..."dull"....Seventh Tree is a slower album too but i like the FOlky feel it has and 70s Psychy power of it...so may buy that one eventually

I love Felt Mountain it's like a cross between John Barry and Poritshead very cinematic i like Seventh Tree but Felt Mountain is just that more Sumptuous and catchy.

But overall Black Cherry dirtier, edgier, and much harder than Supernature which is far more polished. Also much love for Head First a fantastic album encapsulates the 80's and synth pop and still retains a sense of cool Goldfrapp i salute you

Bought the other three goldfrapp albums now....album 6 out later this year Black Cherry and Supernature are the only two i have physical.

Will see if i can eventually be pulled more by Felt Mountain...played Utopia again earlier...man i adore that will see if the other 7 songs catch on more and more as i mentioned previously that Lovely Head was a tandout...i remember it being used on the BBC 3 show Monkeydust waaay back

and yes Seventh Tree and Head First on the way

What i love Most about Felt Mountain is its cinematic feel and scope and a s a debut its a stunner an album of that calibre to kick things off just incredible. As for Seventh tree i like its Experimental Folk leanings the mumbled words add to this weird pastel electro world like a walk in the woods. Cologne Cerreone Houdini another personal favourite.

And i only own Parallel Lines of Blondie but what an album to own

CONFIRMED - New love for Felt Mountain Definitely for this time of year it enhances that winter melancholy i feel....it is a far superior debut album to what i deemed it as *slap on the hand* and loudly played encapsulates this

Haha its always the way though isn't it you end up loving something you hate And yes itfits with the snowy landscape and over all icy feel of winter crack on Seventh Tree when the thaw begins Goldfrapp soundtrack to the seasons

Haha, well its not a question of "hate" really, more of a kinda dislike of not being able to hear/see what others did...love it now...must say i think i rank it just behind Black Cherry and just ahead of Supernature nicely.....cannot wait to own Seventh Tree (i love that one too) and finally hear all of Head First...only heard the singles/seen videos and liked....all 5 albums so different...love them

And And yeah i think Felt Mountain is so very Winter...mostly right now...i mean dont have snow here in Cornwall but damn its so crisp for the Nov - Feb months of Winter....brilliant and big scope...the Trip Hop/Ambience/Electronica is sublime...and yes Seventh Tree is like post-summer/Autumnal feel with its Paganism...like if The Wicker Man was a soundtrack it would be Seventh Tree

True I get that sometimes some albums take more time to resonate and better than Supernature personally for me no and Seventh Tree probs edges it too

And Felt Mountains cinematic scope fits perfectly for South Wales at the moment all lovely and white and bloody Freezing Seventh Nature and its pastel summer tones will have to wait

I know exactly what you mean Head First which i love is the only one always certain of a place (5th even though it is wonderful) it's the reason i love Goldfrapp not a genuinely duff album anywhere even the singles is flawless

And it's melted now but yeah was like a Blizzard from 3 til about 7 yesterday you were on the right side of the channel always a first time (i jest of course Cornwall is wonderful though im yet to visit )
