What sort of idiot leaves a deaf and blind dog alone in a garden in a storm. The dog would be relying mostly on scent to get about- high winds and gusts would disorient the animal. Her animals are always suffering as a result of her carelessness, I wish she'd admit she's incapable of looking after them and home them with people who have the time and the wit to care properly for them.

I don't know how it works, but I suspect not.

It seems to me that if one is financially struggling, and one has two self-contained flats in addition to one's own house, one lets out said flats. Though I expect Nic gets free accommodation; she might even get accommodation in lieu of money, actually. i could se that being the deal.

I do feel sorry for the old bat but she has known for a long time that she's teetering on the financial brink - her columns are packed with information about her dire poverty eg "I only have one dress, which is by Victoria Beckham, yoo hoo Victoria see how I am giving you publicity, plz to give me another" and "I cannot afford to buy a single glass of Prosecco, see what I did there, I drink the right sparkling wine, or rather I would if I had the money left in my Chanel bag". To buy a brand new expensive prestige vehicle (and possibly also a Jeep), and start totting up bills for designer hand-made wedding invitations for a wedding to someone you despise - and who is also by all accounts in fairly dire financial straits, which doesn't stop you demanding a pricey engagement ring - well, it beggars belief really doesn't it?

Hi! another new poster, but keen observer of this thread and the goings-on in Liz's life and head. My only regret is I think we're nearing the end of her car-crash career - so make the most of it while you can !!

The Diary story of her missing dog is rehashed from her earlier piece with added drama, full of her exasperating mix of self-pity, anger and her general incompetence in life.
As others have noted previously, as a "journalist", her writings are worryingly fast and loose with even the minimum requirement of facts, grammar and general accuracy; e.g. she claims she took her "puppies" 30 miles in one night looking for the missing dog. Now, 30 miles is a hard DAY'S slog for even an experienced walker: not something a pampered person in their late fifties could do in a few hours. At night?. In a raging storm?. In designer wellies?. With a pack of dogs in tow?. Maybe I misread it and she took one of her cars up and down the lane, but what would be the point of that -you've more chance of running the dog over than finding it.

Also did the dog actually make it over the river as the farmer suggested? We may never know.

Liz's input seems limited to running around like a headless chicken, falling into "ravines" and yelling incoherently - as usual, everyone else has to run around to solve her problems: it's Nic who has to brave the waterfall in her garden (do waterfalls have "tides" Liz?), put the word out and make the poster (although what she considers essential information is laughably useless), her friend Isobel who has the idea of ringing Search and Rescue, and the Rescue team themselves who actually find the dog (in ONE HOUR, after conducting a search in an intelligent, organised and level-headed way)

Still, good news that the dog was eventually found - although Liz must be spitting feathers that she had to take a couple of days off work; you know, having never had a day off work in her life EVER. Also can you imagine the anger she would have directed at the Baker if HE was the one who had let the dog out (see PinkSofaGate etc. etc. ?!)

At least it took her mind off her IVA for a little while.....

I've wondered if the problem with HMRC is actually to do with paying staff including Nic. Has she been paying them in cash, or with rooms, or as self-employed when really they should have been PAYE?

If you do that you have to pay double the tax you owe. And you are solely responsible, not the person you employ. And the money could obviously skyrocket. The rules for domestic and care staff changed a few years ago and there were some very sad cases with severely disabled people who ran up huge tax bills as no one told them they needed to put their 24 hour care staff on PAYE. HMRC didn't even give those people a break.

What say someone contacts Swaledale Mountain rescue and asks them ?

If you look at the Swaledale mountain rescue website you can see a list of callouts they have attended. The only mention of searching for or rescuing a dog is a rescue attempt of a gamekeepers terrier stuck in a rabbit hole. Which was in 2014!!!!

So either she has made this whole incident up, or Swaledale mountain rescue members have given up their own free time and equipment to search for the Dog unofficially, and without a single word of thanks.

I've found two mentions of it:
Swaledale MRT facebook page
and
Grough magazine report (warning - photo of LJ included)

Thank you for that info, R/N.

Quashes my immediate cynicism (and post) about the content of yesterday's Diary. (although I do feel some details - walking a total of 30 miles in the night, etc - were born of an imagination running riot.)

What I don't understand is why she put the dog outside to eat his snack anyway ? I mean, if he is deaf and blind isn't it better for the dog to be inside where he knows where he is - and when outside he should be on the end of a lead.

I have two dogs, and they both have their dinner / snacks inside the house.

But you're forgetting that she has OCD - she hoovers the garden, can't open the fridge without stretching her designer t-shirt horribly out of shape. Oh, except for when she has dog poo in her dressing gown pocket. Or eats dinner in the bed with the filthy baker. Or refuses to train their dogs so allows them to pee everywhere and chew cables.

Selective OCD, rather like her veganism. And her deafness. And her truth-telling.

It's highly likely that poor aging, deaf Hilda gets turfed outside to eat because all the other untrained memebers of the pack would snaffle her food before she got the chance. Because despite the fact that there are undoubtedly plenty of rooms in the house she could be shut in to eat in peace, Liz probably doesn't like to do that so throwing her outside means at least she gets some food.

Does she employ Nic?

If so then doesn't she now have to offer Nic a pension?

If so then that won't help the money worries she seems to have.

Nic has been described at various times as her groom, assistant, animal therapist, animal behaviourist and probably something else I've forgotten. I'm told by Those Who've Met Her that she's a nasty piece of work.

The whole Nic thing has always seemed a bit baffling, although that is nothing new in LJ's writing.
She had a boyfriend in the west country I think, then happily decamps to N.Yorks for what surely isn't the best paid or most secure job.
LJ bought the hideous and hideously overpriced cerise sofas from Nic?( Another time I am sure she bought them from some colleague in London).
Seems so odd Nic,the animal whisperer has ugly designer sofas for sale.
She is described as a type of general dogsbody, yet is allowed to interfere in her employers relationship.Reading the dreary ,she most definitely does not come over as "nice".
My impression of DB from the dreary was never great though. From her early witterings, she always made him sound like a sort of gigolo/gold digger that went down to London to seduce rich women, hence LJ was overlooked at the time. ( even if she stood on a ladder in her pants).

My views on the exact relationship between the rancid old hag and her "assistant" are well known in these here parts...

BTW, this -

- is the mighty waterfall.

The Prince thing in the latest Dreary has the potential to be amusing: back in the 80's she wrote a book about him... or rather, she did a low-grade cut'n'paste job, in part using someone else's interview and making it look like she was asking the questions. Let's see if that crops up...

I'm very confused, as much as she is, but when did they get back together?

Oh and shouldn't that be men I have bought?

"Prince, whom I once saw at Wembley 17 nights in a row."

Liar ! He played 16 nights in total, the most consecutively was seven.

David, David, David..you've been given a way out of this toxic "relationship"....she makes it plain she has no respect for you or even likes you.. can I suggest you do the sensible thing and just delete her mobile number, otherwise all sympathy we have for your association with her will be gone. ....

I can't say I ever had much sympathy for David,he clearly went along with her slating his family/friends etc. The only time he seems to have got really vexed is the mention of him smoking cannabis or similar. If my new partner was cruel to my ex when it's not their business I would run for the hills.

If her articles are even partly true, I think Liz pounced when he was mentally vulnerable. People with depression can barely defend themselves emotionally, never mind their friends and relatives.

Did we say a few weeks ago that David is in the middle bankruptcy proceedings? Might explain why he can't afford Prince?

Anyway, last I heard they had "parted"? When did the reconciliation occur?

I don't think he was depressed before he met LJ......
I think he's in it for the money and freebies, nobody his age would tolerate what she's printed about him, his ex, his friends, family etc for any other reason. Maybe what he's allowing her do to him is making him depressed in which case I feel no sympathy for him.
Anyone normal would rather a council flat and a basic bread stall in the market rather than a weekly humiliation/attack in print, he has to be doing it for the money. Its certainly not "entertainment". He's as bad as her imo.

Will she definitely marry David now her old sparring partner, India Knight, is to marry her ex-MP partner of "drunken brawls in the Commons and incredible expenses" claims?

I actually despise India "Nepotism" Knight even more than LJ, her big smug face and her tendency to assume the rest of the country is as nauseatingly smug as she is. Of course her real name is Doris Grimsby or whatever the Pakistani equivalent is. LJ will be fuming she's found another mug to marry

How unpleasant you make a change of name sound.

Her mother is Indian, not Pakistani and her father was a Belgian whose surname was Aertsens. When she was 10 her parents divorced and her mother married Andrew Knight which accounts for the use of his surname.

LJ says her mum never had paid employment.I seem to remember she said her mum was a dinner lady at school.( while the profoundly deaf liz was being sexually assaulted in the toilets)?
All our dinner ladies were workers, never volunteers but maybe Essex was different?
I still get angry at the way she writes about her mother, she now seems to be dressing it up with a tinge of regret but she still belittles her.
