Ooooh but it does look stylish and if you enjoy it it is worth the extravagance, I have never seem the point in having things just for the sake of it (and I'm sure your gentlemen callers will appreciate it too &#128521
If you decide to indulge yourself and buy one, order the refill - just the same as the more expensive one - it's in the glass container, but only difference is, it doesn't have the silver lid.

That would be the coolest option. You have the exquisite pricey candle but you're not showing off with the branded lid. It could be expensive. It could be Waitrose. Only you and your visitors with a trained nose know - and everyone else just thinks your house smells lovely.

Definitely, Suzy_Cat. What's more, I find that my candle, lit on the ground floor, subtly perfumes the entire three storey house. Cypress is definitely the best scent - I've sniffed the other candles in the range (unlit) in a shop and all are nice too. I did have a Diptyque candle once - a Christmas present. It was OK.

My only experience of auctioned properties is when they've been reposessed and the money raised goes to the mortgage lender. If there's anything left once the outstanding mortgage has been paid off, the balance goes to the vendor but I'm not sure who would take priority on the list if there are other debts, like HMRC. I Dread to think how much she still owes of the purchase price and houses sold at auction don't often reach their market value, not round here anyway.

I'm sure someone with more in-depth knowledge will be along soon!
.
As I understand it, the OR will sell the house, and the surplus after the mortgage is paid off goes into the pot with the rest of any assets to be shared out amongst creditors. She will also have to pay a certain amount of her future income for a set period of time determined by the OR. This is a percentage of her 'disposable' income after essential bills have been paid, and the percentage depends on how much she has left.

If, by some miracle, her assets (including equity) cover what she owes she will get the surplus back and can apply to have the BR annulled.

Ive got a Yankee candle that has sat, unlit, on the radiator in the downstairs loo for 3 years.

Occasionally, when the heating's on, you do get a slight whiff of cinnamon when you are about your business before it is overpowered by the smell of roses and rainbows being emitted from t'other end

Gosh, you too, Ber? I thought it was only members of the royal family who passed roses and rainbows from their exquisitely fabulous fundaments, unlike us filthy stinky plebs. Reminds me, HRH the Prince of Wales, on his many travels, always has in his luggage his very own lavatory seat. It's white leather.

All I can say is, he'd better not inflict a royal visit on me. All that faffing around removing my bog seats and fitting some poncy leather thing. And I just bet he leaves the seat up.

Meanwhile, back to Jones and her financial woes. I think (and humbly stand corrected if I'm wrong) that HMRC take precedence over all other secured and unsecured creditors. After all, it's us taxpayers who are being indirectly shafted when someone doesn't stump up their dues. But, as the late American billionairess Leona Helmsley said: 'Only the little people pay taxes'. I believe she ended up in prison.

There's far too much off topic commenting on this thread, really could do without household tips and candle chat. Regular contributors have fled in droves over the last year or so. There are other sections for general chat and advice. It's getting tiresome scrolling through rakes of off topic content to find the Jones stuff.

This is true but when her presumably 'searingly honest' anorexia story thing airs there should be plenty to comment on. Fortunately I can't watch it in the Emerald Isle.

The candle chat has been worth reading, for the "roses and rainbows" comment, at least!

Sick irony of the day.
The song Roses and Rainbows was performed by a singer called Lena Zavaroni who died from anorexia.

I thought it had already been aired but it will be on Channel 5 at 10pm on 27th October for those who want to watch it

Creator of various comedy series and some memorable characters such as Hyacinth Bucket.

The internet often proves to be an excellent source of information via its arcane services such as google and wikipedia

When it comes to candle chat, Liz did start it.

Also, this week there is only the Dreary and it's super boring. I guess she has been hard at work on her novels and screenplays and whatever else. Or scrubbing down the Baker's counter.

Not much of whatever else this year, according to Journalisted she has only published 51 articles beside her dreary

To be fair to we seasoned veteran posters, there's fck all in LJ's column's to comment on these days. You've got the pensioned-baker frollicking around her like one of her untrained "puppies", you've got her mounting self-induced self-pitying debts, her various exaggerated illnesses, conditions and eating choices, and the occasional horse who falls down a hole.

Whilst I see your point BellaFiga, I don't see why it should be acceptable to have to rake through pages of off topic stuff about cats, illness, candles, 'parodies', bragfests about house values ect., when there are plenty of pages on the forum elsewhere for members to do such. This is a recent phenomenon on this thread, and since it started many 'seasoned posters' have given up and gone elsewhere to post. Those of us long time posters and semi-lurkers that are still hanging on in there are being shoved out by posters who are treating it like a general discussion thread, which it is not. The title of this thread is 'Liz Jones-You magazine', not 'Inane Chatter'.

What would you like to see then? I've found the discussions about HRMC and the OR and other debt related things quite interesting.

The HMRC stuff IS relevant. But the discussions about personal stuff is not relevant. Like I said, the title is 'Liz Jones', therefore that is the topic. I note there are a lot of new forum members going off topic. Perhaps they should read the posting tips section on the forum.

Therein lies both the problem and the solution 'Netiquette is not on a lot of people's radar and it should be.

I like the fact DS is pretty rigid about staying on topic and whatever you're into there is probably a topic for it. There is also private messages to converse with people about stuff. A thread like this isn't for socialising.
Indeed the facts about the claims she makes that posters have been able to clarify are a joy to read.

Cannot, so I shall await your report with baited breath - so much better than having to endure that voice myself.
