Here we go again. Oh, poor meeee! I'm not responsible for my present situation - it's the fault of everyone else.
![]() If a petulant teenager said that, you would feel like saying : "Grow up and accept responsibility for your own actions". Unfortunately, Liz Jones doesn't seem to realise she's brought this on herself with living beyond her means and also non-payment of tax and creditors. With a huge salary like hers she could have had a very comfortable lifestyle plus money in the bank had she chosen to spend her money wisely, without unnecessary fripperies. However, at the age of 58, she still blames others for all her woes so she'll continue to make the same mistakes. Her lack of self-awareness is astounding. I noticed in the comments yesterday on her farticle about Mick Jagger that Candida Voletrouser said Watson of Richmond, Removals and Storage, uplifted Jones's belongings so it looks like she's no longer in her house. I wonder where she's gone now

From Wikipedia's account it appears this could not be a better fit for Liz (apart from not having stabling for the ponies/puppies/feral cats). In Southwark, looks like an Oxbridge college, bar, restaurant and work privileges for those who can afford it. I'm sure the Mail would keep her in the finer type of debtor's cell and she could wank on about her London "apartment" while, like DIckens' dad, paying off her debts to a baker.

I think I would actually find it difficult to live beyond my means if I had her reputed astronomical salary! I suppose it's my Catholic upbringing, but a 50 quid candle would certainly never get lit by me. She hasn't even sold much stuff to raise money and doesn't have many clothes, furniture or anything.
I suppose most of it went on beauty treatments, something I have never had, with the exception of a decent hairdresser, invaluable for me!! |

Can't imagine having such an enormous salary for writing a few articles, and at the end of it all being declared bankrupt. It doesn't add up.

And Prosecco. Lots and lots of Prosecco. So you can see how the cash soon goes ... and all those lovely presents she gives to UNGRATEFUL recipients - cashmere baby clothes, gold (plated) Dunhill lighters, Mulberry bags, Adele tickets. Plus dinners, lunches, holidays, Prudence the Cat's expenses. Poor Liz - IT'S NOT FAIR! |

I imagine that a lot of Liz's more fancy beauty treatments came free, at least for a while. A friend of mine who worked as a fash mag hag got freebies and discounts out the wazoo, including things like Botox and fillers and lipo. I am pretty sure Liz didn't pay for her facelift, or if she did she got a huge discount in return for writing about it.
It is conceivable that she's been ripped off by some. If you're profligate and don't know the value of a thing, it is pretty easy for people to overcharge you. But given her childhood penury sans ponies, and frugality-when-it-suits - see "I never take a lunchbreak" and "people are wasting money on food" - you'd expect her to be sharper. WRT the Dipstick candles, if they're anything like the Cire Trudon ones I have long coveted, they are so powerfully scented that you don't need to light them to get a gentle waft of their delicious odour anyway. Or at least they SHOULD be. If they're not they are heinous ripoff. However, I concur - what's the point in a smelly candle if you don't light the thing on occasion? You might as well just have a Glade Plug-In from the supermarket. |

And she did make some sort of remark about people who drink hot drinks being weak, didn't she? I could never make that fit together with her love of Illy Coffee.

Exactly Suzy Cat, these treatments and trips would be part of her gig, not all I would think.
Even after she says she buys people things/gifts there still must be money left. You could have loads of animals to feed, cats and dogs, doesn't cost that much. I have 3 cats, all rescues and one dog and with insurance, food not that much and I'm skint/carefull with money. Don't know much about stabling, feeding horses, obvs much more than domestic pets, But even so, 500,000 salary,pa. As for the Baker man, mmh, what's that all about, he must be in on it, nobody would put up with her. I think he hit the skids emotionally and financially and got back in touch to try hus luck. |

The dreary is an absolute car crash - I have no idea why the MoS insist on publishing it every week. It's really not comfortable or enjoyable reading.
While I agree that LJ's situation is completely of her own making (and I've no real sympathy with her there), surely the MoS have duty of care to get her some help for her depression? |

I think duty of care would only apply if Liz Jones was an employee of the MoS. Didn't she get sacked because she went on Big Brother and has been sort-of freelance since?

I myself read the Dreary alone, with no gifts or tins of Quality Street, or food bar some spuds and broccoli I boiled up earlier. And unemployed, though hopefully not for too much longer, but, you know. Sans sufficient income to pay my outgoings. Does this make me like Liz? Am I grinchy enough?
Tell you what I have done though. Reduced my mortgage payments to just above the minimum before I got anywhere near needing to be declared bankrupt and stopped myself from buying Dipstick candles so that my cat can have Wanky Vet Food and thyroid drugs. Do I like it? No. Am I living beyond my means? A touch, but that'll change once the savings are gone if no job is forthcoming. Am I living WAY beyond my means? Nope, never have. And still I went out and bought some cheap little things for Christmas presents for my nearest and dearest. Merry Christmas Liz! I shall toast you with cheap-ass champagnois at best, fizzy water out of the Soda Stream I've had for ten years at worst. Get over yourself you silly old bag and stop whining. |

There was an interesting comment on one of her articles last week...
Kaia, London, United Kingdon. You're the one keeping a tally LJ, otherwise you wouldnt bring up the price of the ring every week. You know the price of everything and the value of nothing. No wonder people keep things from you, it all ends up as column fodder. Never mind. I know for a fact you are being replaced here in the New Year. At least you can have a rest instead of working 24/7. Enjoy your last few weeks as a columnist. Don't know how true it is but thought I'd drop it in here as an early Christmas present! |

The bitterness is certainly strong with Liz as her life goes into its death spiral..paricularly classy to see her scatter-gunning her Christmas cheer to those in her life via the national press. Loved the cracks about her relatives being as welcome as bailiffs, Nic being thrilled about Liz losing her home, and Dave..("men who take drugs..living the life of Reilly..".). No wonder she has nobody.
Thank you and goodnight!. Please God let this be the last we hear from her!! |

Liz was sacked by the Daily Mail (Paul Dacre)
The MoS is a separate entity edited by Geordie Greig (who by all accounts doesn't get on with Dacre at all) Personally I'll be surprised if this whining, self-pitying bilge is the last we hear from Liz in the MoS... But we'll find out on New Years Day I guess! ![]() Merry Christmas everyone (including the "whining old bag" )

Why is everyone so bitchy about poor Liz? I have been waiting (with bated breath and rolly eyed smilie) for her to dump the dead beat boyfriend, and I hope she can now get on with her life.
Her column is the first thing I read in You magazine, possibly because she is like me but so much worse... I do hope she hasn't been fired from the MoS. |
