most overrated band/artist?
bound to have been done but..
Madness Can't stand them. Always wheeled out as though they're an 'institution' in British modern music. Yet whenever I hear them I just want to bury my face in a bowl of soup. |

One direction.
Justin Bieber. Rihanna (sometimes )Will.i.am Miley Cyrus (Not so much) (Only to name a few of the artists around today that I think get too much credit) I cannot say that these artists have done anything to influence music yet they are seen to be the best people around. I'm not saying that they're terrible though, I just think that there have been people before them that have created music like theirs for them to deserve the fame that they have. And someone on that list doesn't have ANY talent either ![]() Just my opinion, it doesn't mean I'm right. |

Definitely One Direction - the way media exaggerates their success is just crazy.
Justin Bieber - if I was a teen right now, I think I would have still disliked him because he is below average singer. Jessie J - I like some of her songs, but I absolutely hate when she murders her own songs by exaggerating. And I'm sure someone will hate what I'm about to say - but, I don't for the life of me get what's so special about Lana Del Ray - her singing annoys me to no end! To me she sounds like a wounded animal ![]() And I also don't understand why is James Arthur so praised - yes, he had nice interpretations of some songs, but his singing is always the same - not everything has to be so bloody intense, he is singing like he is dying. |

The Smiths. Blur. Lemon Jelly. The Animal Collective. The Police. Roxy Music. And yes......Pink Floyd. |

Can we rename this to "Popular artists you don't like" because that's really all this is.

Justin Bieber and One Direction are only popular thanks to teenage girls. None of them can really sing. Carly Rae Jepsen's song was hugely overrated. Catchy, though nothing special. Her voice is a bit odd. The first audition she did on Canadian Idol was terrible. Cher Lloyd - she has an OK voice when she sings normally. Her teenage angsty material is utter sh!te and her rap attempts are hilarious. |

Of course the trouble is that the listening public get what the corporate radio stations want us to hear! There are thousands of decent bands and singers out there struggling to get their music heard but a lot of people don't realise this.
I agree with the Olly Murs suggestion! |

It is interesting, because are there many world-famous acts who deserve to be so? Are Coldplay really the best guitar-based once-were-indie-now-more-pop band in the world? Of course they're not but they're the most well known. A lot of people listen to music quite sparingly, so often sales figures could be a bit misleading - everyone has Adele's 21 but how many listen every day? Whereas a smaller amount of people buy Kate Bush but love it daily!

Forgot about him. He's absolute rubbish. I saw him on TV once on some Christmas special or Audience with Michael Buble type show and I thought he sounded dreadful live. I don't see his appeal at all.

Bowie.
Now don't get me wrong; I actually like most of his stuff but he's not & never was the god-like visionary that he's made out to be. In fact he was the Gaga of his day. He'd shamelessly nick other people's ideas & repackage them as his own (and has admitted it). Mick Jagger once said "Never wear new shoes in front of him" (Bowie) What he did have, was a great publicity machine. As for the new single? Sorry Bowie fans, it's dreary. Having said all that, I will be forever grateful to him for producing the Stooges third album & helping to resurrect Iggy Pop's career.
