contracts too rigid
noise747

I am due a upgrade next month on Vodafone or in april ( I think) I can go elsewhere if I want.

I have been looking at contracts and they are so rigid, i don't really want unlimted text, for goodness sake i am lucky to get through 20 in a month, nor do i really need 300mins of talk time, but 100 is not enough.

what is needed is a provider that will allow people to configure a package, but they won't do that as they want to try and squeeze as much money form us as they can.

so, I have no idea what I am going to do come February, update, or wait and see if there is a network that got something I want. the problem is Vodafone coverage is pretty good here, the others are not so great,

why not have a look at the MVNOs that use vodafone's network like TalkMobile?

Why not go Pay As You Go?

Virgin media have 6 different packages for £12 and at least 3 for their other price bands with a total of 24 different packages, and that is just on pay monthly sim only. Add in other options for PAYG or Contract, so probably at least 50 options so how much flexibility do you want ?

Unless your after a new phone then PAYG seems to suit you more. Voda seem to have some good options and why not try giffgaff for a month? £10 and your covered plus the sim card is free and you can dump it if your not happy, don't cut off your nose to spite your face, try them out.

Slightly OT but I went up to the 3 shop earlier on with a view to getting a Galaxy Note 2. Advised them I was happy to pay off the remainder of my current contract as I'm not due an upgrade yet and take out a new 2 year contract at twice the cost of my presenty one - only proviso was that I wanted to keep my current phone number.I thought they would bite my hand off but......they refused to it and said that I had to wait until May - baffling

If you want to cancel your contract you can but if you want to keep your number with the same network, I think you will have to port it out to another network and then port it back in.

Ask for your PAC code... call for this.

Once you use your PAC code, the current provider will prepare your final bill. You cant use your PAC code on the same network though, so maybe port out to another network PAYG.

Then, soon as your on that other network, again request a PAC code and give it to Three as part of your new contract.

Three allow you to port a number in from another network at any stage of your contract with them, so as soon as you have used your PAC code and get your final bill, you could get another contract. You would get a temporary number though.

Hope that helps

I'm surprised at this. On the Three website it says you need to go to a Threestore if you want an early upgrade but i've not seen it mentioned anywhere you'd need to change your number or ask for a PAC. Is there another Threestore nearby you could maybe call and see what they say on the issue?

I've found the 3 stores to be getting ever more useless. Went in to one once to get a PAYG SIM, apparently didn't have any and tried to push me in to a contract (wasn't actually for me so no thanks).

So I went to the Carphone Warehouse 50 metres up the road where they were happy to sell me a SIM.

You shouldn't have to do all that.

If you pay off your contract in advance, you're effectively at the end of it and should be able to upgrade as if you were.
No faffing around with porting numbers should be necessary.

Well, i have had a look and they are still too rigid, ok I could go for PAYG, but they offer worse value than contract, sim free contract is a better way of going than PAYg, but I still need to get a new phone as the Huawei i got is a useless bit of junk.

The problem around here is signal, T-mobile and Orange is awful most of the time, i don't know why people bother with it here.

O2 is ok, but I had a bit of a run in with them, so not really sure if I want to go back to them, even with Giff gaff. 3 seems ok, but again their signal is pretty limited around here.

Minutes go from say 100 and right to 300, well they do on vodafone, seem to be no middle.

TBH, i rather not bother with a mobile phone full stop, but it is expected now and since my home is VoIP, i need something as back up.

Try using using billmonitor.com to select the best deal for you based on your actual usage. It's very useful.

It seems good, apart from the fact that it belongs to O2 and I fell out with them big time after being a customer of theirs since day one, as I was on Bt cellnet before.

The other problem is remembering to top up, I have got used to not having to go into a shop and top up.

You set to auto top up your goodbag, get the sim, buy your first goodybag and tick auto top up.

I fell out with BT but sod it, GG does what I need.

What have BT got to do with it? O2 is a Spanish company.
I did see the auto top up function after you said about it.

As you said it is certainly a good price, but after telling O2 I would never do business with them again, I feel like I could not really go back to using them
