When I was dating when I was younger, I nearly always went out with girls I'd met on a night out or at a party. I never really went out with someone I was friends with first.
Yes, I'm at an age which is considered young, but nights out are an absolute no-no for me. A few of my mates from the social groups (who also have Aspergers) have invited me with them on their nights out (pubs, clubs etc.), and I tried it a few times and really didn't enjoy it. Being around so many people in such an environment is something I can't handle.

really good series. interestingly, all the couples appear to be straight. i wonder if that is partly due to the fact that people with learning disabilities are less exposed to 'alternative' lifestyles?

Yes I only went out when I was younger because I didn't know I had Aspergers at the time and thought it was normal to go out. But like you I never really enjoyed it, except by getting drunk too much, which was just my way of coping with the sensory overload.

I am so disappointed by the cruelty on here. Ignorance is not bliss, it's just ignorance.

See below for more of the same ignorance.

Maybe they're just not picked?

That's what I was thinking too, but that lad next week with the Moustache looked gay,

He probably wasn't though, it was just the Moustache .

People who are very shy do this too. Believe me when it clicks with someone it will click. Worrying about it just gets in the way of a good night out. It's a night out, drink eat and be merry.
I make a joke out of my nervousness, then ignore it and just laugh when I get too nervous. Humour is the key. Not laugh at yourself laugh with yourself. I know, been there done that (still do it) and am happy in my relationship. They just find my idiosyncrasy cute.

Yeah it seems the 'normal' thing for anyone my sort of age to go out all the time. Those who don't seem to be frowned upon, but I could never do it.

You do not have to go out all the time. That is what social media is about. Spent the first few months corresponding with my partner on line, the get together s were few, they just grew. After this, we spent most of our time around each other homes or around our friends. Going out is just an opportunity to get phone numbers

Yeah, I saw that earlier. I meant any of the three from tonight's show, since Sam had done so last week.

I've figured out now that it is better to go out to do a hobby or an interest than to go out drinking and partying.

I'm agoraphobic now so don't even go out to do a hobby, but it is better because you'll definitely have the same interest as the other person.

This is exactly how I met my partner through a hobby. We met at a regional meeting swapped numbers and the rest is history. There is no point getting depressed about being on your own. Many many people just meet and that is that. It really does happen out of the blue. I know you know this. Agoraphobia is hell, again I know, panic attacks are evil. I hope you are getting anti anxiety treatment. But do not let this stop you from meeting people on-line, etc....

I agree, he looks beautiful and seems very sweet. Loved his painting of the couple shown at the start!

I agree on that for sure. I have loads of interests and things I'd love to go out and do, but I couldn't do them by myself. I'd love to be able to go and enjoy things with someone, but unfortunately there isn't an 'other person', so I'm stuck

I think before anyone thinks of writing anything negative about the people on this show it's worth remembering that they're being very brave to not only put themselves into situations they find uncomfortable by going on these dates but also to do it on camera knowing it will be shown on TV. I couldn't do that. I don't have the guts to do that. So bravo to them all for trying to find happiness and not allowing their fears to stop them. They're braver than me, that's for sure. I hope they all find happiness. I like to think there is someone for everyone out there.
