Well to get that caption up just in Scotland they must have finished the distribution and MUX coding equipment commissioning so are ready to go.

Wonder if anyone saw a similar caption in Wales, or are they further behind with the works?

No news of it here in Wales.

Did they ever call it 'BBC Scotland on One' in the same way they did in Wales in the 90s?

Yes. I remember hearing it on my trips to Glasgow to visit my family. Always found it very strange. It didn't even make any sense. Always wondered if it was just a Scottish thing. Guess not.

from 1983 to 1985 it was BBC Scotland
and from 1991 to 1997 it was BBC Scotland on 1

It was because of the design of the idents back then, with the BBC logo positioned at the bottom on its own. This looked perfectly acceptable in England, reading as BBC 1 or 2 (working your way up the screen with the numeral above the logo). However, in the nations, the respective country was added immediately underneath the BBC logo, so it could not naturally be read as BBC 1 Scotland. It was probably overlooked in the original design of the idents. I can't imagine that's how it was intended to be read, simply because it just doesn't make much sense. Of course this was all fixed at the 1997 revamp simply by adding the channel name next to the BBC logo (ONE/TWO - in the case of the former it was essential as there was no longer a 1 numeral on the ident).

Also probably as significant was that with the introduction of the Digital services the Nations stopped opting out of London - and became channels in their own right.
This was a very very important point both editorially and technically...

I can't say I'm happy about this. It's been nice getting Match Of The Day 2 earlier on a Sunday, and occasionally - like last Sunday or this Friday - a choice of films to watch when BBC One and BBC One Scotland showed different ones.

What annoys me about it is the timing: I'm going to be on holiday when it happens, and the caption says that series links will need re-doing. Anyone know whether re-doing my series links before I go (for stuff on next week) will work?

Clearly not.

Why not just set SD recordings for when you are away?

SD would seem to be your best way of ensuring you have the BBC One Programmes you would like to record.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcone/programmes/schedules does not yet have the Scotland HD version up.

Yep, thought of that while I was staring at the on-screen EPG last night trying to work out what to do!

Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

3 things have happened:

303 in Scotland has changed from a static video channel to an MHEG caption saying "BBC Red Button"
302 across the UK has for no reason been given EPG information saying "This is BBC One Scotland HD"
The pop-up message on 101 in Scotland has had the instruction to re-setup any series links, removed
I hope we don't go back to the "except viewers in Scotland" crap we used to get.

Why shouldn't the four nations have different programming?

Because (and i'm probs gonna be shot down in flames for this) most of the home made content from up here is Pish, imo of course. Don't get me wrong here. I understand the need for regional news and i'm not saying it'll be as bad as STV used to be with it's opt out rubbish. I just don't see why we can't have our regional news then go back to main stream progs that are UK wide, instead of getting the "except viewers in Scotland" who can see a certain program at a later time or date but in the mean time here's "Scotland through the ages" or some other rubbish.

This is pathetic there has been lots of good stuff produced in Scotland think of the jobs which could be created in the broadcasting industry in Scotland , 98% of all TV comes from south of the border a Scottish Broadcasting corporation is long overdue , If it was not for a Scotsman you would not have TV

We pay the licence fee for ALL the output of the BBC in whatever quality the output so there is no reason whatsoever for the HD content to be restricted.

I think ALL 4 HD versions of BBC One should be available to ALL!!!

you "source" said they would be available to all.
of course we know that your "source" was talking bolloks though, if you ever had a "source" at all.

your argument is flawed though, before DSAT you never had access to any other BBC region, so were you having the same argument at that point?
