will.i.am & Britney Spears set for UK #1 this week
According to the midweek chart, Will.I.Am and Britney are tipped to be #1 on Sunday.
It's such a great tune, I know some people don't class it as a song but it's quite catchy and just an awesome tune to blast out in your car

I wasn't fussed, then I kinda liked it and now I love it. It's a real slow burner and catchy as hell.

I think it's alright, but I'd appreciate it a bit more if this past year wasn't so dance music heavy. To me it just sounds like most of the other tracks out there.
I wish will.i.am would go back to the BEP days with music that was daring and unique rather than predictable beats. But other than that, it is a bloody good dance track! |

This will be the worst #1 in some time, the only worse song I can think of last year was that Bom Bom song.

I think the song's quite good actually. Perfect for Eurovision. I don't see why this song wouldn't do well. If Loreen with Euphoria could get past the national finals and eventually win the contest then I don't see why this couldn't.

Scream and shout is the nits pits.I have never known the Top 40 UK singles chart to be so stagnant and crammed with awful songs. Not a good start to 2013.

Although the music now isn't as bad as it was in 2009 or 2011 at least, but I wish the charts would move faster. In previous decades there was so much more movement in the charts, but now you could honestly get a chart from 2 months ago, and it would look very similar to the current chart. |

I agree Eric,of all the millions of songs one can choose to download,it just baffles me that it's the same old suspects floating around like a sweetcorn amongst the chartpoo.
I don't listen to any radio station so whether it's the influence of whats on radio playlists or just downloaders have a sheep mentality when it comes to new & recent releases. The mid 2000s (2005 - 2007) were when the charts hit the right balance of stable activity in my view. |

In which case, Bowie will enter the chart, but will unlikely be at #1. |

Move faster? Your statement is factually incorrect I can assure you. The UK singles chart only began moving much faster in 1995, very suddenly infact around the spring of that year, as songs began instant debuts at No1, and for the decade or so after that the chart was almost meaningless, as nothing ever climbed, almost everything entered at it's peak position in week one, which is ludicrous. You mentioned "previous decades" but take a look at the UK singles charts of the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's, and even the first half of the 1990's. This was how charts and records were meant to work, and move. Only the biggest and best, or special singles gaining instant straight into No1 status. Few single week chart toppers. Surely there is too much movement at the top of the charts currently? Yet even as recent as 2007/08 the charts had returned to a state of how they once behaved, climbers to the top, and lengthy No1 hits, 4, 5, 7, 10 weeks on top. No, the charts do not need speeding up, quite the reverse, especially at the top spot. They have never traditionally been fast at all, except for the 1995-2005 period. Even during that period songs were holding the top for decent stretches. Take a browse through the archives and have a good look. ![]() To make my point, take the Christmas No1, another instant No1, single week chart topper, already down at No21 within just 3 weeks, on the 6th January, whereas most festive No1 hits traditionally spent at least 3 weeks there, and on this date in 1974, Merry Christmas Everybody by Slade still had another whole week to go at No1 past mid January! |
