Hell no
Dramatic, Enotional and funny. Not many actors can play one of these roles convincingly let alone all 3!! |

Not at all, he is an amazing actor!! People might think Brendan gets too much air time but he is the best actor in hollyoaks by far.

The reason he gets so much airtime is because he is one of the best characters hollyoaks has had. His character has so many levels, sometimes you can hate him but then you see his vulnerable side and you love him. Emmett Scanlan has done a great job as brendan and he will definitely be missed

I think the actor is good (though sometimes a little overhyped by the really die-hard fans but thats par for the course with any actor) but yes, I think Brendan is an overrated character. Maybe it's because I missed his entrance and a large chunk of his time on the show but I just don't see what all the fuss is about. He has a few moments of brilliance every now and then but for the most part, I don't find him a very likeable character.
Who knows, maybe I missed the best chunk of character development but I'm not fussed enough about him to go back and watch it all. The fact that a lot of this would also involve watching the god awful Ste puts me off even more. It's hard to concentrate on anyone's development/acting abilities etc when all I can think of is "Get Ste off my screen, now." I will say his scenes with Cheryl, Mitzeee, Walker & Joel have been enjoyable though so that might be it I also think part of the problem is that I heard all the hype first and when I decided to start watching HO again, I assumed I be blown away and he'd be instantly likeable but it just didn't happen. If I hadn't assumed he'd be better than he is then maybe I wouldn't find him overhyped (if that makes sense) He seems to go up and down in my estimations, sometimes he shines, other times I'm not fussed by him. He's certainly not my favourite character but I'll admit I don't mind him. I think he's overrated but not to the point where he is overused (for those of you complaining about how much airtime he gets). I do find that he can mumble/drone his lines though which sometimes works brilliantly and other times really grates on me. Anyhoo, Brendan overrated? Yes. Emmet overrated? Not so much. |

Greatest character ever, not just in Hollyoaks but out of all the soaps in my opinion. It also helps that Emmett J Scanlan is a brilliant actor and it has been a privilege to watch him develop the character of Brendan Brady over the past two and a bit years. I'm going to miss the little mannerisms of Brendan Brady, I also think he's the most complete character, funny, sad, violent, angry, threatening, crazy, psyhchotic, caring, Emmett J Scanlan can do it all.

Extremely. Doesn't mean he isn't good because he is. He was pretty much hated when he first arrived and then turned it around.
But the praise he gets on here is like he's Laurence Olivier or something. So overrated? On DS definitely. Especially by the "Support any gay couple and create a cute thread for them merging their names together" people. |

Emmett J Scanlan is a cracking actor and I think he does deserve the praise his made the character of Brenden Brady his own, I think they achieved a lot in his two years and even he wanted to go out on a high, I can see why his might be overated for some but his portrayed some of the best scenes in soaps for years, a proper raw talent of emotion and personality.

The thing with Brendan is that I think his fanbase ruin it for me. He is played by one of the most quirky and good actors in soap atm... but whatever the character does - he does no wrong.
I think I preferred him in his first year - I really enjoyed the initial stuff. I brought into the whole Joel and Walker stuff too. But since then, getting back with Ste, letting his father back into his life without beating him dead, being too nice for Cheryl... even when he was looking out for Lynsey, Joel, falling for Walker, getting back with Ste... I just preferred the man who couldn't deal with who he was, beat anyone he liked, did bad things, never apologised etc. I know you have to develop a character - and what a great job they have done - but as a viewer I prefered the nut job, stealing everyones food, saying crazy riddles. I think he lost the characters he worked so well with. His fued with Rae was always amazing, his tea drinking with Amy, his post in the club where he actually ruled the roost and ran his dodgy dealings. All that seems long gone. Those were the days for me. |

I don't understand the Brendan/Emmett love. When he does psycho, he's like a pantomine villain and is more funny than scary (when meaning to be scary.) When he does the 'sweet' stuff with Ste, it actually is very cringeworthy as he can't do it. The rest of the time he wanders around mumbling and trying to look hard, which he does ok. The only time I actually thought he did well was the scene with his nan on Later. I know he is really popular with HO fans, but to me I'm just not seeing why he is so great. I would say he is very overrated.

Yet you agreed with a post saying it has been a "privilege" to watch some panto villain in a soap opera. Funny.
