So im on Vodafone, ive got an iPhone 4S and a friend of mine has got a BB curve, now the thing is when ever we go into the basement of our flat i get no service while he gets 2 or 3 bars of 2G signal! Just wondering if thats normal? Is it just a poor iPhone antenna to blame?

I assume you are on the same network ?

I think its just bad luck, I had an iPhone4 which had a great signal at my home, I changed it briefly to a Galaxy S3 and the S3 never had any signal at my home address.

I went back to the iPhone and it was full signal, I got a 4s and again full signal. Makes no sense but sometimes it just happens like that.

iPhones are quite poor when it comes to getting a signal. I have a £50 phone that get a signal 3 but a 3GS or iPhone 5 get No Service. Always makes me laugh when a cheap £50 phone beats a £500 iPhone

Apple are all about style. Doing things like making phone calls, getting text messages or using the networks data aren't that important really when you have a hip phone!

I'm not too sure about the iPhone comment. My old 4S usually had signal in places that the S3, HTC, BB would lose network. Used to always be on 3G when the others had switched down to 2G. Same network.

The 3Gs wasn't all that with signal though, i agree. Not really noticed on the iPhone 5 as the EE signal is pretty much strong everywhere i go.

The iPhone 4's antenna was bad (hence the "death grip" issue), but the iPhone 4S has the same re-designed antenna that Apple used for the Verizon iPhone 4 and AFAIK is meant to be much better.

It is much better, the iPhone5 "antenna" is deliberately over engineered to ensure no repeat of the issue with the first batch of iPhone 4.

There were no changes to the iPhone 4 after "the first batch". It was simply that the media hysteria died down.

Sometimes when I'm on 2G and switch mobile data off and then on it'll pick up a strong 3G signal... Would be helpful if it could switch automatically
