It's British, popular and not directed by Spielberg or Tarantino

1- It doesn't feature a historical figure
2- It doesn't feature the cast singing 3- It's not about some loser whose wife leaves him, and he finds a letter or something, and needs to win the big dance/football match/blah blah blah.....and his dad has cancer or whatever, and meh. 4- It doesn't have Al-Qaeda in it, or if it does, not enough Al-Qaeda |

Apart from Skyfall, has any other Bond movie really been Oscar-worthy (technical & song awards apart)??

When I heard that the Oscars will present a tribute to 007 I had a bad feeling they were doing it to try and make up for stiffing the series when the nominations were announced.

They don't tend to nominate many pure action action films. The only Bourne film of the trilogy to be nominated was the last one, and that was only in technical categories (which to be fair it won). And although not a fan, I would say that any of the Bourne series was far superior to Skyfall in most areas.

because they are vastly overrated, and not very good.
but I bet Patrick McGoohan wished he'd said yes. |

It's British and longest running Americans must hate that.

The Academy voters love Judi Dench, so it is a surprise that she didn't get nominated yet again.

The Oscars are supposed to be awards for art, not entertainment.
I know there will be times where Bond could have been nominated for this, and where other films should not have been. But this is the basic reason why. |

Skyfall wasn't nominated because it was boring, dull, and generally pretty crap.

For it to be snubbed there would have to be some ill intent towards it, which clearly there is not. Some fan boys and girls get far to precious about these things.

Javier Bardem was brilliant, so was Judi. It's a shame they didn't get nominated. Surprisingly, Silver Linings Playbook got nominated. Good film, but the cast wasn't as good in my opinion.
However, hearing that Les Mis has been nominated for best picture makes me even more excited to see it! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-20972967 |

If someone can win an Oscar for playing a pantomime villain in a bloody Batman film, I don't see why someone playing a pantomime villain in a bloody James Bond film can't at least get nominated.

What a film is saying is considered more important than the film making.
Which is bizarre when you think about it. Like giving an award to an averagely written novel because it's on a worthy subject. If you look back on the last, say, twenty years the "Best Picture" is an averagely made political statement of the moment in almost every case. |
