Sony BDV 490 or 590 Blu-Ray System
I'm about to get a Sony 46 HX853 TV but also need to replace my existing home cinema system.
The Sony BDV490 system only has a HDMI out. The Sony BDV590 has 2 HDMI in and 1 out. I will be connecting a Virgin Media TiVO box and a media player. The BDV 490 is cheaper but the absence of HDMI in bothers me. Please advise. |

The TV and the BDV 490 support Audio Return Channel over HDMI. So it might be possible to plug everything into the telly and still have sound via the surround system. If the TV can pass multi channel audio from input to the ARC then you could also get true surround sound from the system.
So the 490 may not be such a compromise. The 590 would be a better option of the two since it does have the HDMI inputs so if the TV cannot pass multi channel audio to the ARC the 590 should solve that. You connect the TiVo and media player to the 590 and it should extract the audio from them directly. Mind you personally I would not give either house room. I am no fan of these all in one systems. If it was my wallet being prised open for a system round the £250-300 mark then I would be looking at a separates system, something like this perhaps. http://www.richersounds.com/product/...96/yama-yht196 http://www.richersounds.com/product/...ony-bdps390-r2 A proper AV receiver and a reasonable budget Blu-Ray. And I would bet it will sound better than the Sony systems.
