Really think he should ditch his first rule. Lying and keeping secrets has led to lots of tragedy in the past. He has a chance to get things right this time. He should tell her he lost his two freinds and that he has a wife. Would be less of a shock for her when River does eventually return. Also will make sure she knows nothing romantic will or can ever happen between them.He also might have to try and explain why she is "impossible". Don't think anything will happen between Clara and The Doctor, he is a gentleman who wears hats. Clara could give him advice on which hats to wear.
