The movie is out in the UK today and already the soundtrack has shot to #1.

This must be the first in a very long time for a full movie soundtrack to go to #1?

I don't think it can't chart on the official album top 40 though because various artists albums are ineligible to chart in the UK.

This isn't the full movie soundtrack, it's just the highlights with songs like Do You Hear The People Sing, Lovely Ladies and A Little Fall of Rain missing.

Not yet, which is annoying as my favorites you have listed are not even on the highlights album.

It will chart on the compilations chart, which often outsells the regular album chart anyway.

I'm really hoping it stays #1 for the next few days to have impact on the official chart. I mean, what if a film soundtrack sold absolute bucket loads, surely it is eligible to chart then? (I'm talking Adele bucket loads )

It still can't because it's against the rules. The only way it could chart in the UK is if the 'artists name' on each track was labelled as 'Les Miserables Cast' rather than on one track 'Hugh Jackman' on the next 'Anne Hathaway' because then the 'Les Miserables Cast' becomes an artist rather than having everytrack be by someone else, but whoever made the soundtrack didn't do that.

I wonder if Anne Hathaway will submit I Dreamed A Dreamed for a grammy next year. When Beyonce covered Etta James's At Last in a film, she won a grammy for it.

I'd love to see Anne Hathaway perform 'IDAD' but without the emotion in the film (obviously as Fantine she is distraught and crying etc so it's appropriate).
