Swipe up on soft buttons invoking Google

With Jelly Bean on a tablet, if you swipe up on the soft buttons on the left, it brings up the Google screen.

I find this really annoying if I am scrolling through a web page (a forum page for example), and my finger drifts down too far, bang! up comes the Google screen.

Is there any way to disable this feature?

PS: In case you haven't noticed this, maybe you are not left handed.

I'm right handed so haven't noticed that happening on my Nexus , however my HTC one X which has just been updated to Jellybean doesn't seem to want to show me this feature

annoying isn't it. you just stop doing it after a while.

incidentally that is where google now would be if you enabled it.
