But it wasn't all heartwarming stuff on the AW today. Oh no. Tim Easterby's charge Faffa, which drifted right before the off, was given a very iffy ride by Adam Carter in the race after that at Wolves. And having investigated, stewards decided to issue a 10 day ban:
Quote:
“4.20, fifth race
The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of FAFFA, ridden by Adam Carter and trained by Tim Easterby, which was tenderly handled over the final two furlongs before running on to finish third beaten 2¼ lengths. They interviewed the rider and the trainer’s representative. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer. The rider stated his instructions were to drop in, to get the gelding to settle as he had run keenly over five furlongs in his previous race. He added that having taken a pull on leaving the stalls FAFFA was initially outpaced and then tended to run in snatches. He went on to say that whilst he was happy with his position round the final bend, he had been wasting heavily at short notice and after feeling weak in the straight was consequently unable to ride more vigorously and go for his whip. The trainer’s representative confirmed the instructions and conceded that he could have ridden a stronger finish. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards found the rider in breach of Rule (B)59.4 and guilty of failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing. They suspended him for 10 days as follows: Tuesday 5, Wednesday 6, Thursday 7, Friday 8, Saturday 9, Sunday 10, Monday 11, Tuesday 12, Wednesday 13, Thursday 14 February 2013.”

The rider felt too "weak" to carry out a challenge? Never heard such nonsense in all the time I've been following racing. He shouldn't be on a racecourse competing in a race in which people have bet money if that's the case.
Here's the video replay of the race:

P.S. I did not bet on this horse, but I thought the ride was disgraceful and commend the stewards for taking action.
