Not really watching this, but it's on in the background, but is it just me or have I heard Narinda use the F-word twice on this Bank Holiday morning?! Was this originally shown in a late night slot?
GarethHarrison

Ah - just been an apology from a Channel 4 announcer! Wrong tape used there then!

Yep, and Victor said "the word" as well!

is an apology enough? out of interest what are the consequences for hearing the F word 3 times at 11.00am on kids tv?
GarethHarrison
27-12-2004
The apology will have been given so that Ofcom will go more easily on them! Will be interesting to see whether anything's said though, since last week when a certain French ex-footballer said the same word during a live interview during 'family-viewing time' on a TV channel with a lot less viewers, and it made every newspaper, and was reported on websites across the world!!

so will OFCOM issue a fine or something then? this must be a pretty serious situation for C4 - its a pretty serious word to broadcast at that time! I did a nice double-take at the TV when I heard it!

this may have happened loads of times before, i don't know, but this is the first time in my 20 years i have heard someone say this word so many times on kids TV. I think its hilarious!
GarethHarrison
27-12-2004
Doubt they'll get a fine... probably a heavy warning, and told to tighten up their tape handling or something! With my job, I have to read through the Ofcom adjudications every week, and it's not that often that TV station actually get fined.
sfxguy
27-12-2004
ah right then. i thought it'd be more serious.

janet jackson showing some breast on american tv got a massive fine - and the F word several times in the morning on british tv gets a slap on the wrist!

we must be a relaxed nation.

It's happened before! The Jack Osbourne (sp?) Show or whatever it was called wasn't cencored properly (on at 1pm)! You'd hear "I just *bleep* that f*cking thing!" They'd either bleep it too early or too late! There was an apology like the one today on BBP.

Hmmm... surprised to see that the mods have decided to move this as it is more of a discussion of swearing going out in a kids TV strand rather than specifically being a discussion about Big Brother - it's just that was the programme it happened in!... I wonder if I'd have used a different subject title, it'd still be in the Channels and Programming section?

Well I for one am glad it was moved as I'd have missed it in the general section. And I hate to miss BB related news. But I see your point about the original forum being appropriate.

We definately are!!! i'm doin my dissertation on censorship in the US media (was watchin live in the us when janet got it out n kicked up all the fuss) and they are the most censored western nation!!!

U cant say anything at all on US tv- only on pay cable channels like HBO.

i think the reason the jackson thing got so overblown was cos 100 million people were watchin what is supposed to be family viewing. we'd get complaints here if kyle got a boob out durng the FA cup final!! so it attracted alot of complaints and advertisers got angry- and US tv is answerable to the advertisers more than any nation. Thats why they got in such a tizz.

here i think we're a lot more open and can handle naughty words so normally isnt that much of an issue!
- although the f word at 11 in the morning might be a bit of a problem! they apologised immediately tho - and its not like that many people would watchin!! and thos who were watchin are likely to be used to the sort of thjing that appears on Big Brother!!!!

A major cock-up and quite embarrasing - but T4 is not kids TV.

It's targeted at 16-34 year olds, and the vast majority of Big Brother viewers are adults or used to the language.

It was unacceptable, though understandable - the editors must have been off over the Christmas weekend - and hasn't happened at all during the first week.

Channel 4 apologised immediately and rectified the problem for part 2 and the second "live" show.

An embarrasing mistake, but just a mistake. Let that be the end of it, this isn't America!

It's E4 that's targeted at that age group - I've always been under the impression that T4 is a strand aimed at teenagers, though often it does cater more for the older end of that age group. And there are probably quite a few older viewers like me as well!

So am I to understand that the moral climate in this nation-or lack of it should I say-is now so bad that people are willing to forgive something that, in previous (non-TV) generations would have landed people in court and/or jail!Sad times indeed- sad times!

Sh*t slipped out today from Kitten. The same happened as I posted above about the Jack Osbourne show: they bleeped before and after the word! I expect it'll only be frowned upon.

But maybe...just maybe...she genuinely has the ability to swear whenever she feels like it *gasp* it's unheard of in 6000 years of human history.....a woman swearing!!!!! It must be a ruse....it just has to be

It is as if you don't understand Kitten's psychological makeup. Once told not to do something, she is guaranteed to do it. She needs to stand out and just has to cock a snook at the Channel 4 authorities time and time again, without fail.

well its kind of obvious that they were told before not to swear on t4 as loads of kids watch it! I didnt say there was anything wrong with her swearing i just think its a bit stupid that she did it at that precise moment.

You actually said she did it intentionally to get attention...when in fact she may have done it just because she wanted to ....
