I realise this is a bit of a long shot, but know you all like a challenge.

Over Christmas my sister was humming a tune and it got stuck in her head for days and now she's trying to work out what it is. This is what we've been able to determine so far.

1) We're pretty sure it's an instrumental piece played by Richard Clayderman as she had a couple of his albums
2) That would date it to around late 70s or early/mid 80s.
3) It's quite an up-tempo piece.
4) It's not any of the following - Side Saddle, Root Beer Rag, Elizabethan Serenade, but it's that kind of music.
5) The main hook of the tune is an increasing scale of around 10-15 notes followed by a "twiddly bit " (musical terminology there) at the end and then that line is repeated twice.

I've gone through a number of albums on mp3 download sites listening to their samples but cannot find the piece.

Grateful for any help or suggestions. Thanks.

Well, it's quite clearly Music Box Dancer, isn't it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQA8fSpxQwI

Nope, not Music Box Dancer - that should have been in my list instead as well, sorry. But thanks for trying at least.

*Thread resurrection warning.*

I've finally found the bit of music being played, but I still don't know what it is called. It was being played in a news item covering the funeral service of Jack Alexander in Reporting Scotland yesterday. I think he truncates a bit off the end, but the general tune is there.

Hope someone can help as it's still bugging me 10 months later! Thanks.

I think it is On The Rebound by Floyd Cramer

Brilliant! Thanks very much.

*Wonders if my original description actually bears any resemblance to the actual bit of music!*

My pleasure. This piece enjoyed a bit of a revival as it was played during the opening titles of the award winning movie "An Education"

Unfortunately not being much of a movie-goer I missed out on that when the film came out - would have saved a bit of bother!

Thanks again.
