I have a brand new Samsung 32 inch smart TV and a Humax HDR Fox T2 PVR.

I normally use the PVR and just use the TV as a monitor for that, the Humax is connected to my amplifier so I get sound via my Bose speakers which are connected to the amp.

If it use the TV itself to receive TV signals or I watch Iplayer etc on the TV I have to use the TV's speakers which are vastly inferior to the Bose speakers I'm used to.

My amp is old and only has phono sockets on the back.

The problem is that I can't seem to connect the sound output of the TV to the amp. As far as I can see, the only phono sockets on the back of the TV are for input not output.

I'm wondering what's the best way to get sound from my TV to my amp? Presumably I need a special cable - maybe SCART to phono?????

Thanks

SCART to phono should work fine, but does the TV have a headphone socket? - you could use that as well (and it may even be intended as a line output).

Thanks. Yes it does have a headphone socket so I guess I could get a headphone socket to phono lead.

The Pound shops usually have SCART to phono leads or adapters which work fine. Some have a switch to select phono in or out.

I have 2 STB, a PVR and a Blu-ray connected to the TV via SCART or HDMI. All the sound goes via the TV which is connected to my old amp with phono. That way all the sources give sound via the HiFi whatever you watch on the TV.

It also gives you the HUGE advantage that you can control the volume from the TV remote control

Feeding it from SCART means the TV volume doesn't work.

I've a mains powered audio AV selector which sits on the floor behind my TV. into which I have plugged, just one scart lead each from the TV, Humax PVR, DVD/CD player and VHS player. This disposes of a few scart leads.
Also in it are the two phono plug leads from the TV then the output phono leads go to a din input in my tuner/amp. Whatever equipment I am presently using the TV for can be relayed through my tuner amp and speakers just by turning it on and pressing one button.
