Your 2013 Music discoveries!?!
I am currently wanting and needing new music......
Strangely, I have started to discover new acts/artists and some from last year that I hadn't encountered ..... But I have also started to rediscover golden oldies too.... So I am currently listening to: New: Tom Odell (Coldplay/mumfords/patrick/Damien rice) Haim Laura Mvula Unheard of: but now listening to: Katrina Train - what a voice! The British Norah Jones! Great album. Golden Oldies/Re-appreciation: David Bowie Dido Abba - Ring Ring album Lianne La Havas - still don't understand how this talent isn't as big if not bigger than Emeli Sande. Amazing vocal talent. Great songwriting. Fantastic solid debut album. |

Haven't even had a chance to have a nose about at this years music so far. Anything in the vein of Lana Del Rey, Alanis Morissette, 10,000 Maniacs or Ellie Goulding that anyone would like to suggest then I'd love to check them out.
Dido is the only confirmed album I'm really excited about hearing. The Pretty Reckless & Avril Lavigne also have releases that I'm interested in. |

Charli XCX. She has a few songs floating around Youtube and some mixtapes you can download if you go to her official site and enter your email. I love her new song You (Ha Ha Ha). I think she's going to be releasing her album this year

Macklemore.... oooh had a look noticed that the act is riding high in USA and Aus.... the video is something unique...... are they a comedic act like flight of the choncords.... anyhow the song 'thrift shop' will be number 1 in the UK I am certain.

Haim. I love them, haven't been able to stop listening to them since they won Sound of 2013 (although it was actually someone raving about them on twitter that got be interested, but that was caused by them winning that.)
I like what I've heard of AlunaGeorge and Chvrches as well, although it isn't my kind of music at all. |

If any of you like a bit of soul with a touch of blues and a little hint of rock, you could do no better than Jo Harman and Company. Proper British talent, debut album out in the Spring, getting great support slots in Europe at the minute, you should check her out while she is still in smaller venues here.
http://joharman.com/ is her website....definitely one of THE best voices you will here, right up there with Adele etc...she also has one of the most talented backing bands on the circuit. AND she is a really nice person and gave me a name check from the stage when I saw her last! |

Bruno Mars - Unorthodox Jukebox. I really didn't like his first album, but he re-caught my eye with Locked In Heaven, and I decided to buy the album, and I must say, I'm not disappointed. It's a billion times better than his first.
Jessie Ware - Devotion. When I first heard of her, I couldn't quite get into her songs, but then a week or so ago, I decided to really listen to the album, and there really are some pearls, Taking In Water is one of the best songs I've ever heard. Mackemore / Ryan Lewis - Thrift Shop. An awesome song. Or should I say "F*ckin' awesome" song! Neon Hitch - Happy Neon. The free EP she released, it really has some good songs, and the production is great. Pink Fields is my favorite, the chorus is amazing. |

Kodaline are a good up and coming band.
Quote:
‘Taking Water’ has become really important because it’s very personal – it’s about my little brother. It wasn’t going to be on my album. I wrote it very early on and it got forgotten about and then it felt like a really important song to me with the storytelling in it and I couldn’t let it go so we added it later on, but I’m happy it made the album because I feel like it’s an important part of it.” I'm so glad she put it on the album. |
