Best budget solution is to get a 2.1 computer speaker set that has a sub woofer and connect it via the TV's headphone socket . Hope TV at least has a headphone socket !
Something like this would be good for £50

If you download the manual from here

http://www.logitech.com/repository/1.../27253.1.0.pdf

you'll see they have an integrated lead with a 3.5mm stereo jack plug on the end as the primary input. This would normally be plugged into a laptop or PC headphone/line out socket. But unless your TV has some extremely weird headphone socket unique to itself then they will also plug into the telly and work just the same.

OK I thought the headphone socket might be a problem as they tend to be only fitted to real bargain basement IE old design TV's or fitted to high spec TV's the stuff in the middle miss out .

Your options are (1) sound bar with sub woofer connected via the ARC HDMI socket or (2) Bluray all in one home cinema kit again connected via ARC or (3) find some other ( older design - but will still work OK ) kit that uses the optical feed .

Panasonic make some excellent sound bars and all but the cheapest use a wireless sub woofer .
Have a look round .

Not ideal for your use unfortunately. It has no digital audio input so you are in a similar situation as with the Logitech speakers linked to originally.

To get any noise out of that soundbar you would have to find an analogue output of some sort. If you are lucky the TV has a proper SCART socket that is fully wired with an output that you can use with a suitable adapter plug or lead.

However if it has one of those SCART on a lead things that some Samsungs have then you are stuffed if the only audio output is digital optical. You would have to spend another 30 quid or more on a digital to analogue converter. Or spend extra on a soundbar with optical digital inputs or, if the TV supports it, HDMI with Audio Return Channel.

A soundbar with optical digital in is this one...

And it's cheaper than the Denver one from Amazon. Only problem is you have to go to one of their stores to get it at that price. But you may find a similar one on line if going to a store is not an option.

Problem with these budget sound bars is that they don't have a sub woofer and most are only a very small improvement on the original "thin" tv sound and there connectivity is only optical or analogue IE no support for ARC on the HDMI socket

OP has your TV got ARC on one of the HDMI sockets ? if so long term it may be better to get the real thing than to get 2 or 3 bits of junk over the next year !

But are the INPUT or OUTPUT sockets? There are likely to be one or more pairs of audio inputs but those are no good to you. What you want are a pair of output sockets if you want to connect a set of speakers up.

And analogue audio outs are becoming rare. It is more common to see digital audio outputs. And a digital output is only of use if you have a speaker set with a digital input. Otherwise you have to have additional boxes to convert the digital out to analogue.

It would help if you told us the model number of the TV as that would let us check exactly what your options are.

Hmmm

If I've got the right manual from Samsung

http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mo...wnloadName=UM#

then the telly has a headphone socket on it. On the back just above the CI slot according to page 10. Apart from that the only other audio out might be the digital optical socket below the CI slot.

I've read this thread 3 times now and I'm confused.....Why can't the headphone socket be used? According to the specs it has one. The OP is saying in one post it has and in another it hasn't!!

Edit....I see Chris is on it....

As I said in the manual it is on the side facing connector panel on the back of the set above where the HDMI sockets are and above the CI slot right at the top of the panel with a little headphone icon above it.

There is a similar socket at the bottom of that panel below the HDMI sockets that is used as an audio in if you have the TV connected to a PC via a DVI to HDMI lead. So don't get that confused with the headphones.

Dare one suggest RTFM??

I seem to recall seeing in there that it mentions the headphone volume is adjusted independently of the speaker volume.
