Dropped Galaxy Note 2 on tiled floor
CoolboyA

I've decided I now hate the official flip cover. It makes the phone hard to hold when open (and unwieldy) and even more of a pain to close with one hand.

This afternoon while trying to close the cover my phone fell about 3 feet onto a tiled floor. Nothing smashed, or dented or got scratched but now the screen won't turn on properly. There is a quick flash of light and then it goes black again.

I'm guessing something has been knocked loose inside the phone. How serious is this likely to be and how much will it cost to repair? I'm strangely calm about it all though...

The phone is big and you have to be careful. It takes a while to adjust to managing a bigger device. I'm always good with devices and don't drop things. In the first week that I had my Note I dropped it twice because I hadn't factored in the bigger size when trying to do things in a rush. I've had it for 7 months and I've not dropped it since.

It only covers non-portables.

I had the Galaxy Note before this so know how to handle them, it's just that on this occasion it slipped out my hand.

I'm going to take it into Three and see if they'll arrange for it to get repaired for me at cost. Or I'll check in the wee phone stores that you see.

You have probably broken the LCD inside but not the glass, I did it with my Galaxy S3 and my Galaxy Note 2. One drop is all these phones need, both of mine were on tiled kitchen floor, like I say the panel broke but not the glass

Not sure why anyone would use the flip covers. Granted, it helps maintain the svelteness of the phone, but the Note 2 is particularly slippery, what with its hyperglazed back. Saw a mate in the gym with his today and strongly recommended getting a Casemate / similar cover. These also help protect the chrome trim and my Note is as pristine as the day I bought it.

Using the flip cover must be cumbersome for taking photos / videos. And with no shock absorption either, just too risky to use if accident prone. Goodluck CoolboyA, with getting it fixed.

There is a Samsung certified repair center in Dundee I can go to. I'll try Three and see if they are willing to let me pay to get it fixed via them first. Don't really want to take it to one of these dodgy wee phone shops...

I can vouch for the Case Mate Tough series of cases. They're a two piece design, silicone type inner with a hard outer shell. I have a Galaxy Nexus and a relative knocked it off the worktop and it landed face down on their tile floor, not a scratch and everything still works fine a year later.

Pay? Your phone has stopped working, it is still under warranty and so will be repaired for free. If there is no physical damage to the outside of the phone then the phone has not been dropped it has just stopped working.

Trouble is they will most likely inspect the device and may pick up on shock damage.

I can also vouch for Case Mate cases, I have a gakaxy note 1 and brought a Case Mate case for it straight away, although the 1 I got is in 1 piece not 2
