Am I the only person who finds these threads pointless?

I'd rather read someones spontaneous views on their faves characters, rather than having list threads.

I wish that they were moved to the games room, it seems fitting that they are based in there rather than on the board.

I don't know what they achieve either?

I couldn't really give a damn who people view as the most popular though. I prefer to have my own opinion, some people are like sheep and just go with whoever is currently popular.

They'll be over in a couple of weeks - don't really see the problem tbh

The Hoaks one has produced debate on characters - Seamus Brady in particular and the fact taht there is alot of deadwood.

Seriously though they are a handful of threads - if you dont like them, dont access the threads - simple as

I 'couldn't really give a damn' about most of the threads on this forum nowadays, it is a shadow of its former self. The favourite character threads are a bit of fun and have ran for years now. They may dominate the front page of the forum but it's only for a few weeks.

Its no big deal. Some people like to get involved in these things.
Threads of this nature are to be expected on a Soap discussion forum I would have thought.

I find them quite interesting but it doesn't differ my opinions. I can't stand Jay, Max, Phil or Alfie and I really like Alice, Joey, Lauren and Whitney. No polls are going to change that

I quite like Tiffany and she's not popular. I can't stand Alfie, Ian and Phil and they are popular. I must be the only one who isn't a fan of denise and find her storylines too depressing. Also I must say, I don't see a problem with Fatboy. Poppy is my least favourite character and find her incredibly boring.

It's only for one month of the year, and it doesn't really affect you in any way. I do wish they wouldn't all come out at the exact same time in January, but I suppose the ones who run them don't want new members jumping on the bandwagon and taking theirs away, so it's understandable.

It's no secret I'm all for them though, and a move to the games room would be disastrous. These threads survive on people seeing the thread and voting within a short time period. When in the games room, they just die a death - and it has sort of become a tradition on here now.

i find them interesting. they're not going to change my opinions on characters (only the show itself can do that), but i think it's interesting to see what the general feel and response for characters are.

there are a hundred and one thread topics i couldn't give a damn about. and thus, i simply scroll on by. it's a simple logic really.

So ironic that you post about the favourite character threads being pointless when you post a thread as utterly pointless as this. Obviously a lot of people do care and find interest in these threads seeing as they get so many votes, people obviously find it interesting to see what others think of the characters and how they rank overall. I don't see why you think your own opinion is so important

I completely agree with this, some popular characters I don't like, but its nice to see others opinions on them and how there opinions are on the characters I like! They aren't pointless seeing as though there's quite a few and most gets loads of votes which proves many people do care

Why is my thread pointless? I had a bit of a moan, yes but I stated why I didn't like them. Others have pointed out why they do, that has been useful to me to see the other side of the coin and to understand why they currently seem to dominate the board.

Of course my own opinion is important to me. It's my opinion. Like your opinion will be important to you. Have I howrever gone for someone elses throat because they have a differing opinion to me? No I haven't.

I like the favourite character threads. Interesting to read who people like and who people don't like, especially when there are polls.

I like them. It gives us a more accurate picture of a character's popularity than other threads do. For instance if we relied on the talking points threads you'd think Kat, Shirley and Tanya are very unpopular because of the negativity on here. This way we get a balanced picture and can express our opinions without getting into a debate ( or argument ).

I've only fairly recently started to post on DS, and it's been an interesting way to find out if others think the same as me about certain characters (as a general consensus I mean)

I'd rather read someones spontaneous views on their faves characters, rather than having list threads.
I agree with your point here as well though. My opinion of characters can certainly change over time, sometime from episode to episode! I'm sure that my ranking of certain characters will have changed by the time of next year's polls.

Which is why they are annual - to see if there is a change

I don't think there's any point in starting a thread like this, it's essentially the same as me starting a thread about how I think Hollyoaks is pointless because I don't watch it and don't get the appeal and therefore all threads on it should be moved into another forum. I think it's pretty obvious what the appeal of the voting threads are anyway, even if you don't wish to vote in them yourself

I do have to agree with this tbh. If you don't like the thread, just ignore it. I don't watch ED so I just don't read their threads.

We all have types of threads we don't like. My bugbear is people not putting the name of the soap they're talking about in the thread title, or indeed in the actual posts if it's not obvious from the thread title. Sometimes it's just names. If that happens and I don't, for example, recognise the names in the titles then I just ignore those threads. I also don't read the ones which start off the beginning of a title in the title bit, put dots in it and then finish the rest of the title in an actual post - if that makes sense!

However it's not really that important in the grand scheme of things.
