isnt all TV? That's not to criticise you I just sit in amazement some days when people get so het up about people liking stuff they hate and vice versa
It is strange how aggressive some people can be about a TV programme.

Sadly, it's a compulsion, I can't seem to turn my brain off at all, even during total fluff....

Mallory's going to be even more irritating than Sullivan isn't he? A shame! On the up-hand, its always something pleasant to watch of an evening, best thing on TV before dinner-time I would say. Seems mad its not on Sunday evening, but hey, I suppose, they might not want to put it in the old Last of the Summer Wine slot and invite complaints in the "why did you cancel it?" brigade. Its a waste to strip it out during the weekdays though....
You can borrow mine if you want, nothing ever happens in my head, ignorance is bliss !!!

I wonder if the writers of today's story are aware that it's perfectly OK, and has been for a very long time, for first cousins to marry? My own great grandparents were first cousins, and there was a first cousin marriage in my family in the 16th century.

I think the objections the parents had were moral rather than legal

According to Wikipedia, within the Catholic Church, marriages between first cousins were generally prohibited until 1983. And most of the characters in the show are Catholics.

My great grandparents were Irish Catholics (lived and married in Leeds though) in about 1907.

Oh well, opinions will vary, he is maybe slightly amateurish but I quite like his exasperation... and the way he delivers lines like:

"You have got to be kidding me!"

I don't doubt you (they are your family!). They might possibly have got a special dispensation. Or Wikipedia could be wrong.

Though it's a smaller error than some of the things on the other show I comment on here - Doctor Who - such as the electric eels in Norway..

I am presuming it is set in a smallish town (?) so maybe the new Detective is there because he wouldn't be up to a bigger area. If he was too good at his job though there would be no need for Father Brown's skills. Given the number of murders they have a year I would be very worried about living there - much like St Mary Mead.
It's all a bit fanciful and not to be taken too seriously. A fun bit of escapism.

He's not up to a bigger area, but he's also not up to being a detective! He couldn't detect his own nose on his face.

He dosn't have many redeeming features apart from being a reasonably entertaining bumbling foil for Father Brown. With Father Brown solving all his major crimes I guess his superiors must think he's a genius!

Visually he reminded me a bit of Jeremy Corbyn

As for the new Inspector I think there's a rule in any sort of fiction featuring amateur detectives that any representatives of the official police force has to be some sort of incompetent

Jack Deam is a fine actor, but not on this. Overacting terribly.

So what, it's just a lighthearted afternoon detective drama, it's not by Ibsen after all

I don't like the new Inspector either but I am assuming we are not meant to.

The plot was really obvious today I knew it was the psychoanalyst right off. What he did to Lady Felicia would be seen today as highly unethical.

Still enjoying this light hearted romp, though.

I had a panic then thinking that Father Brown was a goner! Does this mean that there will be another series? I hope so.
