No surprise really. It's not a great advance on the 4S and left a lot of people disappointed by the lack of innovation. I have a 5 and I find the battery is worse than it was on the 4 and also it randomly plays up and has now decided not to recognise my home wifi I never had a single problem with my old iPhone 4. I think Apple really are losing it

You can't really take a sample of one. By the same token I used to have exactly that problem with my 4S but I don't get it with the 5, but I put it down to changes in IOS.

I'm going to get lynched for this but, what could apple do to possibly make a budget phone? Apart from the aluminium shell, the phone is fairly budget tech wise anyway.

You would have to ask Apple development team the specifics but I'm sure we will see a less expensive iPhone at some point.

Those are pretty healthy numbers but again we won't know for sure until apple release the figures.

I do wonder what numbers would be considered successful an more importantly what figures would be considered an unsuccessful quarter for apple an the iPhone 5.

Samsung are a very good example of a bang in the middle mainstream company which has a bit of everything - not a discount company, that's for sure. Not quite premium in the other direction though.

Probably best comparison I can think of would be the car company Ford.

Yes I would 100% agree with that, an there is nothing wrong with a ford. They sell millions a year after all.

Some of samsungs stuff can be expensive. Some of their tvs are almost if not the same price as their Sony counterparts.

Sony aren't really a proper premium brand either - they are at the top end of the mainstream brands but not a proper premium brand - think of someone like Bang & Olufsen

Several years ago I was in an electrical shop looking at VCRs and I was chatting to a salesman about a Phillips and a Bang & Olufsen they looked exactly the same but had rather different price tags. The salesman confirmed they were in fact the same inside just with a different brand name

Sometime you just pay for a brand name
