Calls to Virgin mobiles.

Calls to Virgin mobiles from Virgin landline phones are being charged for despite them supposedly being free. If you make a lot of calls your monthly bill may be getting quite large by now.

Obviously I don't know if that is the problem, but "only" 60 minutes per call are free, then 5p per minute. You would have to end the call after 60 minutes and call the number again.

No the thing is at the moment you pay for all calls.

Did you contact them? I can't recall that the offer has been withdrawn and their website states they are free.

I have contacted them, two days ago, but as yet no answer has been forthcoming.

Odd! Surely it can't be that difficult to say "there was a problem with the system" or "yes, we do charge now, but didn't bother to tell anyone".
And you're sure that someone didn't port their number from Virgin Mobile to a different network?!

me and my mrs both have virgin mobiles and we have a virgin home phone and we definitely are not getting charged for calling mobile from landline though mobile to landline comes out of our monthly allowance.

Anyway from the virgin site,

http://store.virginmedia.com/phone/p...tic/index.html

Quote:
“Calls to Virgin Mobile numbers: Unlimited calls to Virgin Mobile numbers in the UK are included if mobile numbers have been active in the previous 90 days (i.e. a chargeable call, text or data session has been made). Call categories are aligned with your home phone talk plan. Re‐dial before 60 minutes to avoid call charges.”

FWIW, I'm on O2 and have had the same number with them since 1999. However...

The number came from a work phone that I kept when I was made redundant. And the company had started out with Hutchinson Telecom (who I think may have morphed in to, or been sold to, Vodafone at some point). They then switched to Cellnet and had all their numbers ported over. Cellnet became MMO2 and then just O2, but my number is still the same and if you check the number ranges per network it is still in the Vodafone set.

Virgin have changed their bill design now, obv, but for a long time calls to my phone were shown as calls to Vodafone and charged at the Vodafone rate rather than O2. I must check to see how they charge them now - the same logic, I'd guess (my family is well schooled to call me using their mobles and included minutes, but one of them still forgets now and then )

Maybe this is the problem - did you port a non-Virgin number over to Virgin? I'll bet their landline and mobile billing systems are diffrerent and treat the charge data differently...

Actually no, the number I have is a Virgin one. This has only started happening since the 7th Jan, been ok for a number of years before. I have raised this with Virgin a number of times but have been met with a deafening silence since. Still the bill continues to rise.

On Virgin Media forum it has been mentioned that they are aware of the problem.

I got my bill today and £20 more than usual - all calls to Virgin mobiles had been charged for even though they've been free under my call plan for years. Called Virgin and eventually got them to credit account back. But I could not get a straight answer as to whether this was a problem at their end, a change in their T&Cs, or what. And no apology. I asked would this happen again on next bill and he said "maybe". He also kept saying are you sure you use the Virgin mobile numbers regularly to make outgoing (chargeable) calls? I said yes, which we do, but I wonder what they're playing at.

Interestingly, my mother had same problem a week ago when she mentioned she'd checked her bill and found out they'd charged her for calling my mobile (she has Virgin landline and calls package). She called and got it refunded, but again, wasn't given a reason why.... thought at the time it was a one off with her account for some reason but not now
