Hello.
I work on a factory shop floor where carrying a mobile phone is not allowed, I have to leave it in the locker room.

I am seeking some sort of small, wearable, vibration alert device, which will activate if my mobile is called or a text comes in.

Can anyone please advise if they are aware of such a device being commercially available?

It will depend on why phones aren't allowed; anything that fits what you describe will need to have either a phone signal, or possibly bluetooth (but then range might be a problem). There's no shortage of bluetooth headsets, which I was going to link to one, but then I found these:

The rules state that we are not allowed to carry a mobile phone on the shop floor, they do not say that we cannot carry a device to alert us if our phone rings.

If the device is silent and small enough to be concealed, management need not know about its use.

Anything that alerts you to a call may as well be capable of making calls. You can get very small phones, even phone watches, but of course it would be against your company rules.

There are various Bluetooth watches that link to phones that are about to hit the market. Various ones were launched at CES last week (Google CES bluetooth watches). However, I suspect that range would be a problem in your case, I believe they are designed to be worn while the connected device is in a pocket.

In that case then, just put your phone in your pocket on silent/vibrate.

Seriously though, if your companies policy is not to use mobiles, then dont use them. Whatever device you use to get round this, will have the same technology as a mobile so if your going to run the risk, you may as well run the risk with a mobile.

Hope the reason why your not allowed is not due to the mobile signal interferring with other equipment. I sometimes work in areas like that.... and it can cost thousands if not millions of £ if sensitive equipment is compromised.

The reason has nothing to do with interference. It has to do with contract employees spending more time on Facebook than working. As a result, everybody has to suffer.

Smartwatches do not have 'the same technology' as a phone. They are not phones in their own right, they have no cellular modem, you cannot put a SIM into them or connect them directly to a mobile network.
They are companion devices that have to be connected to a master device (ie a smartphone of some sort) to offer any additional functionality beyond simply telling the time.

Answer would appear to be No.

Bluetooth won't reach over the distance you want, that's the problem.

Depending on the implementation, Bluetooth can in theory have a range of up to ~100m.
But it's unlikely both devices would be compatible for that to be possible. And even if they were, that's a theoretical range - in reality you would never see that much, even in an open space, as soon as you have things like lockers, walls etc for the signal to have to penetrate you can expect it to drop off considerably.

There's really no way to know if it would work without trying.
Unfortunately however, most smartwatches are expensive enough that you wouldn't want to buy them on a whim (£100+).

You'd probably be better off just nipping back to your locker from time-to-time.

Hmmm, I'm with you 100% then. Others spoiling it for one always gets my back up. How about buying an older small mobile that's discrete and using call divert on your main mobile? Or swapping sims in work time? Or see if one of the clone sims works.

Least if you get caught you can say it don't do facebook and you only have it as others am need contact in an emergency

In case of a true emergency they can call the factory office?

I had considered using a call divert function to provide the desired result but wished to establish first, that there was not some other " off the shelf " solution already available.

As it appears that there is not, I will have to try the call divert route.

Actually you can get a watch that takes a SIM card and receives and makes calls, though making a call is best via a bluetooth headset.

They're not smartwatches though, they're watch phones.
