Amazon Kindle Android App - where do I copy files to?

I downloaded the app and connected my phone (Xperia U) to the PC, but I cant find a directory to copy my ebooks (stored on PC, not Amazon servers or anything) onto the phone so the app will "see" them.

Anyone have any ideas?

I think apps only work with Amazon servers rather than local transfers.

Yea it syncs with your kindle, if you don't have one, then I imagine there are better apps out there for reading ebooks.

I use the Kindle app on my S2 and have all my books stored on my SD card under the directory Kindle, works a treat.
All I did was drag and drop the books from my PC to my SD card.

There is an "on device" tab in the app so it does handle local content.
NPah3, The U only has internal storage, when I load this up there is no Kindle directory.

Try creating a folder called 'Kindle' on the phone, drop a book into it and see if your app sees it, mine did.

On my phone, the free books are stored on the sdcard under a folder called kindle.
The paid ones are stored on the phone under data/data/com.amazon.kindle

Just bought a Tablet downloaded the Kindle App, it only recognizes books obtained direct from Amazon no options to read books from any other source.

I have the kindle app on my S3, My Nexus 7, The wife's S2 and my son's Nexus One.
They all let me drag and drop mobi or PDA files into the kindle folder and then Kindle sees them on the next reboot. (The kindle app doesn't recognise epub files as far as I know).

I can't see it being different on any other android device?

Just copied a batch of mobi files from external SD card to internal Kindle folder and the App now opens them.

To get epub or mobi files opening in the Amazon Kindle app on your Android tablet you will need to do the following:

Install Calibre on your PC (most O/S supported)
http://calibre-ebook.com/download

When l do this on windows the first time you open Calibre it asks you what type of Reading App you are using and on what type of device. I selected Amazon Kindle Reader on an Android Tablet.

You can then drag and drop your files into Calibre.
Connect your android tablet to the your PC. Calibre should recognise it and when you right hand click on a book your should have the option to transfer the book to your tablet.

For some reason the book will not instantly appear in the Kindle app, you will need to give it a few minutes, sometimes even force the app to close

Happy reading

I used KIndle on my phone for a year before I got a KIndle. I never had any problems. I tend to purchase using my laptop then the books are sent to me devices via wifi.

i thought kindle automatically synch kindle files from their servers when you open any kindle app. presumably copying yourself does this same job.

i was looking at kobo readers in smiths the other day, and they said kobo could not read kindle files. does any other app read kindle files?

ie I thought kindle had a DRM type system to prevent them being freely copied between users.
