Is it because the food is basically rubbish and only meant for 'westerners'?

That's simply not true. Funnily enough on my last visit to Brick Lane, just after Christmas, on the table next to ours there was a large party of young Asian men enjoying a night out.

Cooking for your family at home is a big part of Indian culture. Many don't eat out at all.

I only eat in Indian resturants where I have seen Indians eat.

Me too, there are many good Indian resturants in Leeds were Indian people eat. Otherwise they are just curry shops serving food to peole out for a few beers.

This only works to a certain extent. British people eat at crap British restaurants all the time, no reason to suspect Indian people are different.

Beat me to it . Also they probably cook their own at home just as good if not better, Indian food on the high street is not exactly cheap.

I'm similar to an Indian, and I'd only eat Indian food from an upmarket Indian restaurant, as most Indian restaurant/takeaway food in London is cack. If I want spicy food I have my mum bring it to me, nice fresh food with hardly any oil.

I use an Indian restaurant sometimes when I go to Birmingham, the food is fabulous.

I also sometimes eat my friend's husband (Punjabi chap) food. His lamb curry is sex on a plate.

I think most Indian people would only go to the fantastic places which are either authentic or upmarket (or both). Or just get it at home.

'indian' food in the UK is largely a british invention.

british asians are as likely to enjoy a curry as anyone else.

We went to a buffet Indian restaurant in South Shields and it was full of asians. You'd think a buffet type place wouldn't do the finest Indian cuisine but it tasted great to us and must be acceptable for the others eating there.

I've seen lots of Indians eating in Indian restaurants and if they don't its probably because they can cook the food as good at home!

But British people cook British food at home and still go out to British restaurants.

A pal of mine is a second generation Bangladeshi and his Dad has nineteen or twenty restaurants in and around this area. Every time I ever go in any of them, there are some of his extended family eating in them so either they are all just there as window dressing for gullible white and black people, or they are actually eating their dinners in there.
I suspect the latter.

I guess it depends where you go. Lots of Asians eating in the places on or around Commercial Road in London

If his relatives are eating in there, they're probably eating for free!
