Why the funny names for Android O/S?
PencilBreath

Just wondered why the updates seem to be named the way they are & not like Android 4.1 or something?

Its just a google thing, all Android operating systems are named after desserts. And, just in case that wasn't nerdy enough for you, Google put these sugary names in alphabetical order

Here is what Google said about it:

Quote:
““It’s kind of like an internal team thing, and we prefer to be a little bit — how should I say — a bit inscrutable in the matter, I’ll say,” said Randall Sarafa, a Google spokesman. “The obvious thing is that, yeah, the Android platform releases, they go by dessert names and by alphabetical order for the most part.””

Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean and Key Lime Pie.

It makes it more interesting instead of boring number increments.

I like it. It's more interesting than iOS way of naming.

If you look on your phone/tablet for the software version it will say something like Android 4.2, not (just) Jelly Bean

On versions after 2.3 if you go to Settings > About Phone then keep tapping on Android Version something will happen depending on which version you have...

2.3 - A painting of a gingerbread surrounded by zombies
3.0 - A giant blue bee with the caption "REZZZZZZ"
4.0 - Flying Androids made from Ice Cream Sandwiches
4.1 - A giant jelly bean with a face on it followed by floating jelly beans

I like the naming, it makes it more interesting and along with the Android logo, it gives the OS its own character.

I always thought it was a bit boring just using letters and number (such as the BMW 318).
