BBC DAB in "The South"

Anyone have any idea when the BBC will be Dabbing us down here? I really want Radio6 for launch and XFM would be good as well. The Portsmouth - Southampton corridor is the most densely populated area in Hampshire and Portsmouth is the most densely populated city outside London, so surely there are potential listeners here!

DAB was being advertised on the normal radio stations here tonight so keep your fingers crossed!

BBC chart for DAB coverage is pretty poor for anyone living along the coastline of the UK... and coastline means inwards of 30 miles or more... the commercial coverage map seems very good though, I'm not sure if it really is that good though.

Apprently, the DAB frequencies 'could' interfere with France, boo hoo, so the BBC have had to have been very careful about DAB not crossing the channel, sadly they seemed to go overboard and played it safe by avoiding the coast at all. It's probably going to take them time to go around and fill in the gaps, for example Brighton now has DAB, but no one outside of Brighton can easily receive the signal (and many inside Brighton can't either!)

Interesting that the commercial Digital 1 multiplex appears to give much better coverage for us Southerners.... compared to the BBC's .

There have been some problems surrounding frequency negotiations with France. This has prevented several proposed transmitters from going live on the South coast.

Digital one's website provides the official line
"Negotiations with France over interference issues continue"

I knew that's why we didn't get channel 5 down here, because it interfered with France but I never knew it would affect DAB. Bugger. Cheers, one and all
