So we can hear the same 20 songs in stereo, nice I have capital for that thanks.
Now Kiss is national on D1, it's probably Capital (or Heart) which might replace Kiss (and perhaps XFM?) in stereo on the local Bauer muxes, when the MXR muxes close?
http://radiotoday.co.uk/2012/09/regi...exes-to-close/
MXR is owned by Global Radio, Real and Smooth Ltd and Arqiva, operates in Yorkshire, the Northeast, Northwest, the Severn Estuary and the West Midlands. Most of the stations are extensions of brands for Global and Real and Smooth Ltd, including Heart, LBC, Choice, XFM and Real Radio XS. However, some stations are committed to being on DAB as part of their licence extension agreement.

The mutliplexes will close between July and September 2013 except Yorkshire which will continue till 2015.
----
Global Radio say their investment in the DAB platform continues with local and national services. They have just invested a total of 15m committing to providing their stations on more localised multiplexes owned by Bauer Media, for the next 12 years.
Most of the Bauer muxes are full, so this may be the only way to keep Kiss, Capital and Heart (ex Real) on DAB in many areas after the summer?

Does this mean we can have Magic back on the local multiplexes where we had it before it was replaced with Kiss?

Ugh.

Another station goes mono only.

So we have:
Fire Radio mono 80
Jack FM mono 64
Kiss mono 80 (or is it 96?)
Absolute 90s 64
...and Capital, Heart & Gold have low bitrates of 112

See http://radiotoday.co.uk/2013/02/kiss...auer-confirms/

Lucky I can listen on line if there is ever any decent stuff on kiss in better quality.
!06.4 signal is OK but not normally good enough for stereo.

Is it just me or is radio going backwards? Moving towards mono broadcasting again after years of stereo...can understand speech stations but music radio in mono....

The reasoning is of the 15 million DAB sets sold, the vast majority only have one speaker, also a while back the D1 mux was empty, but now has 13 stations. There is talk the D2 mux may get approval (perhaps with DAB+?), which means more bandwidth and more new stations and existing ones like Jazz FM and Kiss becoming stereo again.
Another option if the 2 Smooth stations close with the Global takeover allowing Kiss to go stereo with their bandwidth release, or slightly more problematic Planetrock goes mono to allow Kiss to go stereo?

I would like Magic to reappear where it previously did maybe even more multiplexs but I don't think it will be.

Interesting to read a quote from the Radio Today article:

Steve Parkinson, Managing Director at Bauer Media, commented: By being able to transmit nationally across the country, we can realise our next ambition to be the first young targeted station available on DAB right across Britain.

Since the closure of Core you mean?

Pleased to see Kiss confirmed as permanent - it and Jazz FM should have been on Digital 1 from the start.

This will sound silly but, Why do I have 2 Kiss and 2 Capital stations on my DAB. I can get Capital London & South Coast but why 2 Kiss's?

One will be on the national Digital One multiplex, and one on a local DAB multiplex. The plan is to end transmission on the local DAB multiplexes, leaving everyone with just one Kiss via Digital One.

Thanks, Do you know what one will leave? One is "Kiss" which sound clear with good quality and "KISS" sound like the bass is turned all the way up. I guess that is the kbps?

It's KISS that will probably be the one that stay.

The 128kbps service on NOW South Hampshire will cease. Shame really. There's a fair amount of room on the mux yet we have the Global stations at 112kbps.

Although from Wohnort back in June 2012 the mux was full and before then Kiss replaced XFM on the mux in 2011.http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct...42768644,d.d2k
Since June Breeze has ceased and Jack has gone mono (to save costs?).
The South Hampshire mux is unusual in that Kiss replaced XFM, whereas on other Now muxes Kiss replaced Magic London (but before Magic replaced Kiss the original station).

On the Northern Bauer local muxes which have already have north Magic, looks like they may have Heart and Capital added when MXR closes. But what will replace Kiss on the Southern muxes is still open. Might not be XFM, but might be Heat or the Hits which have already been added to some muxes rather than Magic London?

I retuned my other halts car radio to the national Kiss on D1 in preparation for loosing the local feed and she's now complaining that she looses the signal when driving around south east Essex, I have had to retune back to the local Kiss Essex for now as it provides a rock solid signal when driving around South Essex.

I guess whilst Kiss may pick up some more listeners by going national they will also loose a few long time loyal listeners when the turn off the local feeds. Shame as going mono and poor signal is a huge step backwards for radio, you would have thought in a time when radio is struggling to compete, they would have been trying to encourage people back to radio. I was very impressed with the sound quality of Kiss and Capital when I got my DAB car radio 9 months ago. Now I I'm glad I bought a radio with and iPod input, which I will be using when they turn off Kiss on the locals.

And that bloody annoying track from James McArther why kiss play that is beyond me. I also hate the specialist crap they play at night apart from the weekends of course.

Kiss is very good, but I question some of the track choices. James Arthur really isn't 'in format' for them and Pink - Blow me (one last kiss) is similarly pushing it a bit. Rihanna's latest track 'stay' is also not rhythmic in the slightest. To be fair to Kiss, they make up for it with their mixblocks, Kisstory and their specialist output.

Capital in the ex-Galaxy areas is much worse for veering off-format though!

I love Kiss, I think it sounds brilliant much better, hotter and slicker than Capital, but the one thing that really frustrates me is the 'Kiss UK Hot 40 Big Beats Chart' that goes out on a Sunday 5-7. What's the point? you can't follow the chart as it's pretty much presenter less apart from the odd pre-recorded link every now an again, no numbers in front of the tracks so makes the chart hard to follow. I don't why they don't just do a generic show or put Kisstory in the slot to offer an alternative to the Big Top 40. Even if automated or pre-recorded will sound better than the Hot 40 and will be a winner as Kisstory is very popular and not everyone wants to listen to the Top 40 on a Sunday afternoon.

The local DAB mux must have more local transmitters than D1 in SE Essex, there is a DAB consultation going on so it matches Classic FM FM coverage, and extra sites have been proposed for D1, but look like they will sort out Northern Ireland first before the rest of the UK

On 1st May Kiss is leaving local DAB

http://www.kissfmuk.com/2013/04/24/g...ywhere-on-dab/

There's a message on their DLS text on the local service telling you to rescan after 30th April

They are also running announcements about the retune during their commercial breaks on air!

Shame it will no longer be stereo on DAB from May

So 3 stations become mono on 1st May, Kiss, Absolute80s and Planet Rock, and the addition of another mono station TeamRock!

Dundee is a Bauer multiplex, so hoping they might replace Kiss with The Hits or Magic, as we don't get this wonderful choice of stations that other areas do.
