Lance Armstrong with Oprah Winfrey Discovery 8pm
Couldnt find a thread about the actual show
Is anyone watching? I dreaded that Oprah would be really soft but I think she is doing a good job and she isnt letting him pass on things. He does seem nervous and uneasy. Cannot believe how this happened - just crazy listening to him and his team-mates. |

An insight? The guy didn't say anymore than he needed to in order to benefit himself - and he even held back from apologising to Emma O'Reilly and Betsy Andreu. There was really nothing new there at all for anyone who's remotely a fan of cycling. Tyler Hamilton's interviews - now they're worth listening to or reading!

I agree. Yes it's lacking in details & he's very evasive but from what I read I was expecting even less. Not surprised he's being cagey about the people behind the doping ring, he'd probably find a horse's head in his bed. Blatant lie there about not threatening his team if they didn't take part...interesting watching his body language. Bet we'll see clips of him in future eps of Lie to Me lol.

It really was rather a poor interview. I have not seen Oprah before but as she is famous I expected better.
Her first question on each topic was outlandish and her follow up questions ignored his answers and did not follow on. Example 'Did Dr Ferrari specifically order you to take drugs?' Answer 'No definitely not' Question 'So you did not ever speak to him at all?'. That is just dumb and lazy and hard to listen to for over an hour. He said that he did not at the time think he was cheating, because a cheat is a person who gets advantages others have not got. Why did she not follow this up, it was a very interesting comment. He said that of the 200 riders in the Tour, about 5 were not on drugs, she ignored it. The interview did not flow it was just a string of bits. He quite plainly was delberately not blaming anyone else, and and she was at pains that he be questioned but that sport was to be protected from any suggestions that drug taking is rife. Next: Oprah on 'why wrestling is real and not just choreographed and after the break, why Katie is silicone free'. |

Lance Armstrong “deserves” to race again like Crazy Frog “deserves” to have a new record contract

You only really needed to see the clips the 24h news channels had. Did you dope? yeah, I lied but I wasn't lying about being clean for my comeback. It really hurt when they said I was a liar, well I was a liar - but not that time. Also, poor me. P.S. Please don't sue me for the next 10 years.

As it happens you are right, but that was because the interview was so poor. I assume, but I would like to know because I am curious, that he could have made a good living from being a bike racer but staying clean. By taking drugs etc. he made a huge amount of money, presumably he has millions. He could have made lots more of course but he was ratted on by his former colleagues. His family now now that he was no hero but was dishonest. What I wonder is whether he wishes that he had stayed clean and kept his family and the public respecting him, and just been well off, or whether he accepts the label of cheat and thinks it worth it because of the memories and the money. Would you cheat and lie, and have it made public and have to confess to your family, in exchange for 25 million pounds? Would all the people here criticising him, nevertheless do the same given the chance? In other words do I detect the odour of sanctimony? |

He made a fortune off lies and cheating and forcing people to toe his dishonest line in corrupting a sport and says he only did it to get a level playing field (like using air in tyres and water in bottles). He then lied and destoryed people careers when they challenged him and sued where possible until the truth came out (and even then times the interview to a week after the limit for perjury for his 2005 performance).
Now he says sorry and please can he sport again as he's bored; hope he gets sued to hell and back, his children never speak to him and is never allowed to play even tiddlywinks. |

As a part time sound engineer at a church, I don't understand why considering this was a big scoop with the backing and money of Oprah, they a) used a tie mic on Lance and b) had it so low down. Every five seconds you can hear the ruffling of his shirt. Even I as a keen amateur would never of done it like that. Why didn't they have either two booms above or below or a cannon mike on the table. Very poor IMHO.
