Twitter - following people without following

Hi,

My Twitter account is driving me mad. Every day I end up following 2 or 3 people who I don't know and have never followed in my life. They appear to be from all over the world.

The one thing I notice is that these people have thousands of followers without actually being interesting. As such i suspect they are buying followers from somewhere.

The only problem is that I'm not part of any following list or anything else. My password is secure and I'm currently looking through apps that I've authorised to use my account.

Any ideas if there's a new force follow attack out there at the moment or what else I can check?

Thanks

I'd change your password as a precaution.

Yep, I did that and I also removed authority for all the apps I'd given permission to access my account on Twitter. Funnily enough it all stopped then.

Turns out one of the services I'd used in the past had been compromised and it was accessing people's Twitter accounts and following Twitter users without their consent.

The funny thing is that most of the people I was suddenly finding myself following were minor celebs or people who appeared to be trying to make something of themselves in the music industry. I don't think they were responsible for the foul play with my account but I suspect that some nasty company had obtained my user details, with many others, and was selling followers. It was a bit of an eye opener to see who was seemingly buying followers!
