Google NOW - hows it work
Hey
I am confused as to how Google Now works. I Google searched flight information 2-3 times one night and it didn't appear in my Google Now content. Also, i purchased tickets to a sporting event and it didn't get picked up by GN. Any idea how this works?? |

Im not fully sure, but one assumes that the areas where you look have to be compatible with how it picks up info.
I use Safari on a macbook but use google search, where I am signed in. If I search something there, about 5 mins later it can pop up on google now if relevant. ie, if I search for a hotel or an area, it comes up in GN. But, I would of thought, searching for flight times/information, it wont pick up as its not definitive, its not as if its a booking? |

If I search for things on my laptop/ phone it pops up in google now on my tablets. Also if I'm out when I get back I usually find an estimated time to reach home from where I was on my tablets.
It also informs me when and who Manchester United will be playing next. After the match I also get a card telling me what the score was. |

if you are logged in when you do a google search you search history is saved. it is visible in your account settings.

I believe ticket/fight info is from your Gmail. Otherwise every single flight/event you search for would pop up. Tracking packages works the same way. It seems though that not all providers are covered though; certainly I've never had a tracking one come up.
However for directions, if you search for directions to a particular place they should be ready and waiting for you in g now. More: http://www.google.com/landing/now/ tells you for each category whether it comes from gmail, web search or both. |

It worked for me with hotels booked through booking.com and a ferry booking (POSL).
Both sent confirmation emails to my device's linked gmail account. On the day it offered to guide me to the ferry and then the hotel. Weather also provided info for the area surrounding the hotel. |

I had a Galaxy Nexus with Google Now. Google Now didn't update me with the shipping progress of my Nexus 4 despite the fact i ordered from the Play store and was emailed a shipping number. These things are meant to be picked up by google now.

Flights I would think is easier to do. I've just seen that if you google for "my flights" when logged in it should show up the ones its detected. http://googlesystem.blogspot.co.uk/2...fications.html |

Maybe this will make manufactuers understand that they should be releasing updates at least for 2 years anyway. Take for example the HTC one just recently came out on 4.1.2 they are going to release 4.2.2 but not even sure yet if they going to release 5.0. That's one thing apple certainly has right they make sure updates happen.

I just put the app on my iPhone. Hasn't done anything yet. Hopefully it will over time. Though I'm not sure iOS will give it enough rein to just "pop up" as it can on an Android.

I wonder if Apple has restricted boarding passes being added because of Passbook?
[Not that Passbook is much use in the UK, of course...] |

OK, I just noticed one immediate drawback of using it on iOS rather than Android:
No notifications... So it only works if the Google Search app is open. |

I was just thinking that myself. Obviously they can't have the cards appearing automatically, but why not have an option for notifications when you have new cards? It seems like common sense.

Yeah. I wasn't expecting the cards outside of the app, but I would have thought you'd still get notifications... Hopefully that will get added soon.
Also, GPS seems to be kept on even when the app is closed... |

I must be my wife to install this. Does it share data with her google profile then? So stuff she searches for on the family nexus 10 on her account will be shared with her iPhone? |
