Getting VERY p***ed with o2 - Please help
lee18xx

Right...I need some advice because I'm getting very pissed off with o2.

I brought a Samsung E800 (on Pay and go) from The Link at the end of November, and put my contract sim card in it (using the PAYG as a back-up).

Anyway, the phone keeps dropping its signal (even when my sisters O2 phone is full bars in the same place) and calls are interrupted because of this. Text's take about 10 attempts to send, and WAP/GPRS hardly ever works.

I've come to the conclusion that its a handset problem...but I dont know what to do next. Talking to the blokes in the link is practically the same as banging heads against brick walls! What should I say to them (if anything, clean words please?!) or shall I just contact o2 directly (or visit an o2 shop)

ideally I don't want to be without a phone for too long.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Because the handset was purchased from the link you need to go to the link or alternatively contact Samsung customer care on: 08702420303 who will give you details on how to get your item repaired under warranty.

One of the reasons that I buy Nokia is because almost every town has a Nokia service point near them and most repairs (such as the software fault of the E800) can be repaired same day and in some cases they will provide a free loan handset if it needs to be sent away to be repaired.

If the handset is still under warranty, The Link have a legal obligation to take the phone back and get it sorted.

OK Thanks both for your advice..I'll brave popping into the link tomorrow...

Hi,

It might be alittle late, but if they dont do anything and try to fob you off, ask them for a software upgrade. Their usually are some, and the Carphonewarehouse usually do them under 12 months.

You could try contacting Samsung Direct. Not sure if they have service centres in the UK, most mobile manufacturers do. If they won't/can't sort it for you they should at leat be able to say if it is a fault, a known problem and if there are any fixes for it. Then you can let The Link know what Samsung say & hopefully they'll do something about it.

I am having the same problem with O2. The network is w@nk. Texts take several attempts and I am constantly getting the message NO NETWORK COVERAGE. Pathetic.

Thank god im not the only one!
On my Siemens in a excellent area that usually has full coverage, it will say "No Signal - Only SOS Calls", whereas my Orange mobile will always say about 3/4 bars.

I aint got a clue whats going on!

O2 have the best/most coverage and best call connection rate in the UK (according to independant surveys and tests), so good luck finding a better network

Well Vodafone and Orange are the two that immediately spring to mind.

Because it always seems to be o2-branded phones which play up and/or are faulty - If I had the e800 on Orange, yeah it would be branded, but at least I'd be able to count on it to work.

There is no way that O2's coverage is best in my area. Vodafone and Orange are the clear winners. O2 is fine in the towns but once you get away from major population it is pretty much no use.

Would this be the same call success rate that every other network boycotted this time round? I could understand it if only one network failed to report - this could be blamed on sour grapes. But for 3 of the big-4 to boycott, screams to me that there's something else going on...

It's a shame, because the Oftel surveys used to be pretty well respected.

We live pretty much in the middle of no-where and O2 is the only network we can get a signal on
If orange/vodafone are good for you in your area, then go for them (I think orange will even match o2's awesome price plans), but I always thought the whole point of a mobile phone was to be mobile, so it wouldn't be your local signal that mattered but who has the best nationwide coverage. But I guess if you don't go many places then only local coverage will matter to you (wheras I goto meeting all over the country, so good nationwide coverage is essential for me for voice and data).

Im having different sorts of problems with O2 but they are seriously pissing me off!! Ive got a Samsung D410 and the screen has been going blank lately leaving my phone unusable.

Ive contacted O2 online and they've told me to take it to the O2 store. I took it there and they told me to come back NEXT tuesday b'cos their repair service isnt open until then - I asked if they had any loan phones and they didnt have any.

When I got back home I emailed O2 Online again saying this wasnt good enough and I basically keep getting the same 'cut and paste' answer.

In response to your query I would like to inform you that your faulty phone would be repaired within your warranty period. However, this does not include wear and tear, physical or accidental damage.

Further, if you require your proof of purchase, please reply back to this email including the location, address and fax number of the O2 store that you intend to visit and we will fax the proof of purchase direct to the store.

Ive replied over five times now in the past 24hours and each time I get this blurb back!! They've even told me that I should travel 40 miles to go to another O2 store!!

Ive asked repeatedly for a complaint address etc but they tell me all their staff are trained to deal with complaints.

It annoys me that im just being sent in circles, im not getting any personal service - just a formulaic, generic text book service from an Indian customer care centre!! I dont think im being unreasonable to expect a speedy repair of a phone Ive had less than a year and that im on a monthly contract. When I was with Orange and had a similar problem a courier arrived at my home the next day handed over a new phone and took away the old.

Put "GET IT RIGHT" in the subject and it'll get sent to someone who will handle it with priority.

here's a clue - orange and o2 have different masts!!! you might be nearer to an orange mast than an o2 one... I can give you a few places that that happens in...

Plus, o2 is not w@nk, i think its your settings. I have had the same o2 sim card in 3 different phones, and I have never had a dropped call, a failed text message, or a no signal area... (apart from on the eurostar and in buildings.)

WAP/GPRS always work, so I really don't know what you are talking about, so please, check out the obvious things first before slagging off networks...!

IMHO o2 are the best network around. Please don't even dare saying that Vodafone are the best! Have you seen the PAYG prices recently!?! Orange I must admit are better in a way of prices are reasonable, and they reach a better number of people in the network.!

Well Good for you!! But i live in Birmingham, and we have perfect coverage of ALL networks.

Well, I KNOW all my settings are fine on the phone as ive been on the phone to Siemens, and ive taken the phone back to argos, and its still happening to its replacement.
I, 60% of the time have failed messages, and sometimes GPRS is not there.

My dads also been on O2 for quite a few years, and his bars have never reahced higher then 3 out of 5, whereas, Ive always been on Orange, and my bars always reach 4 and 5.

Thats strange, i.e it happens to certain people. I have been with o2 for around 2 years, and have had no problems whatsoever. I'm sorry if when I made my point I p**sed you off, Thanhuk, but thats the way it goes...
