I think the best way is via Apple TV - then you can mirror everything wirelessly. Besides the iPhone 5 has a different lightning connector - so old cables won't work.

To expand on the above, the Lightning to 30 pin adapters don't support video output so if you're using a 30 pin video out cable with an adapter it won't work.

Apple do Lightning to HDMI and Lightning to VGA adapters for connecting the newer devices to an external display.

Apple supports its whole ecosystem(buy Apple TV for Airplay) so they removed the connections in the iPhone 5.
DLNA is the main standard so if you have a DLNA device then you can buy an app that should also work.

However I thought it still worked with the 4s that still has video out through the older non lightning 30 pin connector.

If they removed the connections, how come you can buy a lighting to hdmi cable

Or just connect the iPhone 5 to a TV via theLightening to HDMI connector? Just thought I would throw that out there or DLNA like you said.

I must have misread on it then.

Yet at £40 the other same cost choice might be a cheap HDMI Android TV c/w DLNA.

£39 for the official one but can be bought for half the price at various other places.

I didn't think apple had licenced the lighting connector to anyone yet, although I see a few docks appearing so things might have changed.

You're quite right, its still full price everywhere..I just ASSUMED which we really shouldn't do. I'm surprised there aren't Chinese made ones on eBay yet.

But there will be soon.

Its probably the same reason thunderbolt cables are still sooooo expensive. The chips inside and aren't cheap to rip off.
