The ability to sing consists of hitting the correct notes for the correct duration at the correct point in time. He did all of that.

Whether you find his performance to your taste or not is subjective and I won't argue that point with you - but he quite demonstrably can sing.

I never voted for him on X Factor as he wasn't as talented or technically accomplished as most of the others and I preferred their performances

He's obviously got some raw talent there though and with hard work and a good vocal coach he could be very good indeed.
