I've got an ace at the moment. I need a
phone which is lighter and faster and can
use the latest Android update.
I don't mind buying used so please can
you help with some good
recommendations

Samsung Galaxy S2.
S2 or Xperia J?

Which is better, or does anyone want to throw another into the equitation?

Madness to buy a 2nd hand phone ( at any price certainly not £150 !! ) unless your gran had it for 10 mins first and gave it to you . Far to many issues . Buy a NEW Huawei G300 circa £120 at Argos - 4 day battery life , very good sound and clear screen + fantastic . Its not a Nexus 4 or a Samsung s3 but its a quater of the price and its NEW !!

Second hand is ok if he goes somewhere like CEX, there will be a few of each model to choose from. An a physical store to go return it to if something goes wrong.

If you can get an s2 for that price it would be a steal. Cracking phone despite it's age.

The S2 is a great phone an was only released mid 2011 it will also be getting jellybean soon. I would take it over the much newer Nexus 4.

I disagree. I've always bought 2nd hand phones. never had an issue with any of them.
I think I will try cex or my local phone shop and exchange my Ace...

Hugh has never actually used a N4 yet bashes it in every thread, so it would be best to ignore him

Huawei Ascend G300 is good, especially at £100 new!

Why do people prefer this phone. The guy said he has a budget of £150ish. Why are you recommending a phone which is great, but can be had for £79 now. If he wants a good but cheap phone then yeh go for the G300. But if he wants a powerful phone with more features/better spec then you can pick up a used Galaxy S2 locked to network for around £150-£170.

Even better at circa £70 from Very or Isme (i accept a bit of hoop jumping to get it at this price!). Details on HUKD. I too wouldn't entertain a second hand phone.

Ive used CEX loads of times to buy and sell phones, only problem with them is if your buying they charge an extra 30-50-80(depending on phone/age) quid on top of what they would actually sell for on ebay or gum tree etc

But CEX is great if you NEED a phone and quick, but not if your wanting to buy at the best possible price.

And can i just add, ive had about 3-4 iphones from CEX and ive not had one single issue or had to go back for anything, so all in all a good experience from me

Thats why whenever you take a phone into CEX they will say ok leave it with us for 30mins so we can test it, if theres a problem they wouldnt buy it as they know they wont be able to sell it so whats the point taking in a faulty phone?

Sorry but the Huawei G300 looks cheap. I really don't like its looks. I was thinking about a Samsung S2 to be honest. I want quality and reliability.
