For the love of Pete... it was a joke, if they were worried just edit that bit out, but what are the BBC supposed to do, go through every programme ever in their archive seeing if someone mentions Jimmy Saville or makes a joke?
Saville was a weirdo and it seems also a monster, but Its easy to see things differently with the benefit of hindsight.

A mistake no doubt, but watch certain newspapers run with this and individuals who didn't see it now complain.

    This is getting ridiculous.

I don't think there is a single episode of Mock The Week that hasn't got Hugh Dennis doing a Savile impression.

Quite, and heads will have to roll to satisfy the papers - millions will be wasted.

And it's all because of an ancient repeat that hardly anyone will have watched anyway.

The DM costs the license payer's millions by stoking up the rabble in this way.

I've always taken the Mail mostly becuase my Father did, but their knocking of anything to do with BBC/EU/local government/public sector has gone well beyond a joke now. They are instantly outraged and this is ironic becuase their website is full of showbiz gossip and trash.

Currently careful about what episodes of '70's TOTP they will show on BBC Four that featured Saville, and also DLT, as a presenter.

what Saville done was truly awful to those innocent people and its a shame they never got real justice, but this has got absolutely hilariously stupid now...this was just a simple mistake, the press should get a grip on reality, like a young child under 5 years old will know who Max was impersonating? but It's quite scary how Max does look like Jimmy Saville in that clip..I suppose the press will want the BBC to check every programme in it's archive for any reference to him now..Oh please, this country is going down the swanny very fast!

What a load of nonsense. Would any child watching, and I understand the target audience is 2-5 year olds, have any idea who he was? No, of course not. It's being a victim for the sake of being a victim.

It's probably very easy to be careful about something like TOTP where Saville was presenter (and thus his name would be in contributors/contractors/rights holders depending on his role), and every mention of him/joke about him in programmes he never appeared on.

Dad Mark Roberts, 42, was watching the show with his six-year-old daughter when he saw the impersonation of Jimmy Savile.

He said: 'I think it's completely out of order.

'Max was my daughter's favourite character - I can't believe they dressed him up as Jimmy Savile.

He was dressed as JS ages back you fool but anyway, what did your daughter think of it? I bet she hadn't a clue who he was.

.... and will remain so whilst 'media outlets' including Digital Spy are incapable of distinguishing between

"Savile, who died in October 2011 aged 84, has been revealed to have committed more than 200 sexual crimes ....."

    and

"Savile, who died in October 2011 aged 84, has been alleged to have committed more than 200 sexual crimes ....."

Whilst there is money to be made from the abandonment of the presumption of innocence it will go on, and on ........

such is the state of a once civilised society.

Adults will see the irony, but the kids will not be affected by this.

Do what the food manufactures do - put out a blanket warning on every packet, and forget about it.

'Programmes on this channel may contain references to Jimmy Savile'

If it bothers an individual - turn off.

Can anyone else see the irony, between this thread and the OP's DS name?

Too late! 8 out of 10 cats already did a joke on Friday's show about Lance Armstrong and Hitler only having one ball! :D

They didn't mention him explicitly but they get in trouble for it? How many times has Russell Howard made quite clear references in 'Good News' during the last series, mentioning the last name even - no one has said anything.

What Saville is supposed to have done to those people is truly vile and disgusting, but it is all getting rather ridiculous now IMO, will the BBC/Dave etc not show MTW anymore because of Hugh Dennis' Saville impressions?

The government needs to do the right thing and axe the licence fee. We shouldn't be expected to fund the BBC any longer.

Good to see Mail Readers keep to the subject matter and not just use it as an excuse to bash the BBC
