Not particularly amazing specification. Same price as base nexus 7.

Bigger screen, so for the spec isn't too bad.

Exactly. The Nexus 7's screen is a deal breaker for me. It's tiny. I would much rather prefer 9.7``.

Not exactly ....

The PIPO has a physically larger screen (albeit not by much), but lower resolution (1024x768 v 1280x800).

Also, how well do most Android applications scale to a 4:3 screen, as most Android devices are running 16:9 aspects (or thereabouts). I've seen plenty of apps that scale badly up on a larger screen (having been designed for phones), they'll possibly look terrible on a different aspect ratio.

This PIPO is a lot of money for what is a relatively lowly specced tablet - half the speed and a lower resolution screen than the Nexus 7.

But if all you want to do is browse, its not too bad I guess (shame that the stock Android browser is dire)

lower res and debately support. TBH, if you want a 10" device I would look at something like the advent vega which can be pickup for peanuts and has a lot of un-offical support and easily flashed to ICS.

16.9 is great for films but annoying for most other things.

OK show me a tablet that has a great spec and a nice 9.7" IPS screen for under £150........i am open minded.

I've been running my Vega for ages, and its a good bit of kit. very highly recommended if you can find one.

I've seen it on youtube - sorry but the viewing angles look poor - plus seen come gripes about the screen control.

viewing angles are find unless you are peering from the side. And no issues with screen control. You can get re-conditions ones for £75 off ebay with a couple of months warrenty. Ideal for the kids, in fact I have 2 of them and survived the abuse of a 5 and 9 year old.

Altenativily if you can stretch an extra £30 then a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is within your budget and I suspect will be a sh*t load better.

From off axis its not great - and there is a problem with screen control/sensitivity on some models when its charging.

The Galaxy Tab will definitely be a sh*t load better!

I think it looks great for the money, but prefer the better screen quality of the Nexus (from experience always best higher). A good buy though.

Must agree, personally I find 4:3 much more useful than 16:9. In fact I have just bought 3 9.7" Android tablets from Maplin (The Coby Kyros) for CCTV applications (showing 4 screens in a grid) specifically because they are 4:3. Don't watch a lot of movies on a tablet, and even when I do they tend to be ripped DVDs of 10 year old TV series which are fine in 4:3 anyway.

yeah, when charging this is a know issue. It is apparently better on some ROM and some tablets then others.

Actually I was looking at the Hero 1 as the Hero 2 has got some poor reviews due to its core chip.

That is good spec for the price, although its worth noting that it isn't the same spec as a Nexus 7. It may be a quad core, but it *isn't* a Cortex A9 core - its an A5 (slower, but apparently better on fuel). Which I'm reckoning would make it slower on browsing than my old Vega ....
