BGT appears to be airing in it's Autumn slot this year, would they air them back to back?

Ian Royce ‏@officialroycey

You want to know what happened with @SimonCowell @bgt in the autumn @itv

Ian = BGT and XF warm up guy

Could they be moving it to allow Cowell to return?

Ian Royce is the warm up guy for Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor.

If Britain's Got Talent's finals week moves to the early autumn it will take the place of The X Factor which will presumably be pushed back so the audition shows are aired from mid October with the live shows starting in January 2014.

The only reason I can see for ITV doing this (if they have) is to allow Simon to judge both the UK version while holding his position on the US panel.

This, of course, is assuming Ian Royce hasn't simply mistyped!

EDIT: Thanks to Score on the Ratings Thread for highlighting the original tweet.

Hmm, if this is true it sounds like an interesting move but could it be overkill of the show's so close?

Also, it could be the last series I suppose of X Factor and having 2004-2014 looks better than 2004-2013. I know this bit doesn't make sense but I can't think of the correct term.

If they're looking to upset their schedule for this they're obviously desperate to rescue The X Factor. Maybe they think Simon returning is the only way to do it? But they're going to leave the spring very bare if they move Britain's Got Talent away from it's slot.

I know what you mean by 2004-2014 - makes it look like the full decade.

Yeah, I'm not really sure if it can be rescued though. It's just got a little stale but we shall see. But yeah, the schedule would look a bit bare and then I'm guessing this means that DOI would possibly not be coming back as well?

BIB : Yeah, that's basically what I meant.

They could move Dancing on Ice to the spring instead, to get it away from Call the Midwife - though it would be a bit odd to have ice skating on increasingly lighter nights! Alternatively they might air it in midweek. I'm sure it will be back next year as it's the tenth series; unless series 9 collapses they'll want to see it through to the tenth.

With the increasing rumours of Sharon returning as well I wonder whether Simon is looking to the original panel to rejuvenate the show, with or without Nicole (who I can see getting on with Sharon).

Yeah, I suppose they could move DOI to the Spring. It's dropped a bit in the ratings but it still does ok and like you said, I'm sure they'd like to see it through to 10.

Also, I wonder how would they fit IAC in as well? I forget how many reality television show's there are now.

Dancing on Ice is still pulling in strong enough figures for a midweek/spring/summer show so they might see that as a better bet then just axing it.

Same as now; I'm A Celebrity wouldn't be affected at all. Simon will need Britain's Got Talent to be over by the end of October so he can film the live stages for The X Factor USA; I'm A Celebrity... doesn't start until mid-November.

Ah, I see. I was getting slightly confused. Thanks for explaining.

Why would they wait so long to air the BGT auditions though which are being filmed now? I can't see them disrupting anything, they've got it spot on as it is.

The BGT thing could be to suit Cowell's schedule.

Won't suit the viewers schedule. I don't think it's a good idea.

I doubt they'll leave it so late. The Spring slot works for them. They can get good shares at that time of year.

That isn't too early, there is no such thing. Cowell is very busy, he has lots to fit in! Maybe that's the only time he's avaliable?

Last year BGT aired earlier than normal to clash and compete with The Voice. Maybe they are moving it to get it away from the Voice?

If it were to take the XF slot, it would air: 24th August-12th October based on last year's dates.
A short break and then XF auditions begin airing on 2nd November. Live shows begin with a Christmas Special on 21st December and continue until the final on 22nd February.

It would definitely fill up the lack of a major Saturday night show in January. Dancing On Ice could start the week after 2nd Mar on Sundays. It would also avoid a clash with The Voice as that airs on Saturday.

It would be more of a 10 yrs anniversary rather than this year. They should move it to spring, make it a special show returning contestants and judges.
Plus with the musical being launched as well it would make it xtra special.

A good move if you ask me. It would be nice to have a break from it.

We were told last night (at the London BGT auditions) its airing in the Spring.

Btw, by "warm up guy" do you mean the guy/comedian that does inbetween bits between auditions? If so, it was Ian himself who mentioned Spring at the Palladium last night while asking us (the audience) to remove coats etc.

EDIT: Yep, looking at his Biography, that is him

There is no way X Factor will be moved from the autumn. It is by far the most profitable show on TV (even when the ratings collapsed) so they're going to keep it at the time of year when they can charge more for advertising. If they moved it to spring then it defeats the purpose, because not only would the figures be lower because less people are watching TV, but they'd also get far less for the adverts. Its why Saturday night TV becomes a bit of a wasteland after Christmas then again in the summmer.

Decision made after BGT had booked the audition venues and put out info?

They wouldn't necessarily need to move it to the spring, they could put DOI there, and XF in January.

Seems like a genuine mistake then rather than ITV panicking about it's future, damn it!

January is even worse for advertising because major advertisers spend the majority of their budget from October-December. To move the show to January for higher ratings when they won't be benefitting from it makes no sense whatsoever, especially if the higher ratings aren't guaranteed.
