Janis Joplin

She would have been 70 a couple of days ago. Does she have no fans on here?

When you hear such a great singer like her it shows up 90% of popular singers now as the poor singers they are.

Massive fan of Janis. She and Grace Slick are my favourite females in music.

I'm a massive fan of Janis Joplin. I sometimes wonder how her career would have panned out had she not died. Thing is, Janis didn't have a technically great singing voice, but what she did have was a voice that could convey hurt, sadness, happiness, pain, etc. in a genuine way. She was honest and unique and there will never be another one like her.

This performance is my favourite:

She is on my MP3 player in her own right (not as part of a compilation mix) and I cannot praise higher than that.

Janis Joplin was simply awesome in my opinion. She had a terribly sad life - read a book about her years ago, and it was just heartbreaking - but wow what a voice! They don't make 'em like that anymore sadly...

As a teen I really was into Janis and Maggie Bell, loved the raw blues voice.

Hopefully, working with a better backing band. Now, they *were* dreadful.
