Comedies are hard to launch. Characteristics need to bed in before they succeed. Itv also need instant hits more than the bbc which justify a second series more readily than its commercial rival. I think a repeat run would benefit this show although I've never seen any myself so dont know if its good or not but good to see itv trying comedy.

According to the Daily Mail yesterday Sky is seriously looking into launching its own 5 day a week soap.
This seems a strange idea as it is hard to see who is going to invest in watching that regularly. They have apparently not settled on setting or story ideas. But the only one I could see doing well is a revival of Dream Team. That was popular in Sky's early days - plays to their strengths AND is sufficiently different from the other soaps to not seem like an immitation. Indeed it launched the soap careers of quite a few in Hollyoaks and Corrie. But knowing Sky it will be about young jet setters living in the village of Hollydale just outside Wolverhampton.

Hypothetically for a 30 second spot on ITV, it costs an advertiser about £43 to reach a thousand 16-34 adults (£69 for 1000 female 16-34s, £110 for 1000 male 16-34s), £19 to reach a thousand ABC1 adults (£30 for 1000 female ABC1 adults, £49 for 1000 male ABC1 adults) and £52 to reach a thousand Housewives with Children (source: ITV Media). So based on the demos I post each week, you can calculate in theory how much ad revenue that show would generate per hour if ad spots were sold based on each demo, and then you can see which demo a show is strongest in relatively speaking (ad revenue-wise). In reality though companies won't just buy ad spots during specific shows like this apart from the big-hitters, they'd just buy a certain number of 16-34 (or whatever demo they seek) TVR worth of ad space and state they want their ad campaign be advertised over a specific period of time to that number of 16-34 TVR worth of viewers and the broadcaster would then distribute their advert during programmes across that specified period which they project best matches the type of audience and number of viewers of that audience the company paid for. But manually calculating these figures does give you an idea in which demo a show is doing best in (if it's not clearly obvious by the skews). You're right that the HWWC audience for GNO, even though it is comparatively better than 16-34 and ABC1s for it, is still mediocre. |

Only ITV will know what sort of figures they were looking for for GNO though the steady upward trend over the last few weeks is an optimistic sign.
I think Jonwo's situation of 30 minute episodes for series 2, partnered with another of the increased number of comedy projects that ITV seem to be willing to try, would be a good idea. Along with repeats of series 1 either post News At Ten on ITV or on ITV3 or ITV4. (Not sure the programme fits with ITV2, although maybe it does if it has a high female audience as rzt seems to be suggesting). The advantage of repeats on a digital channel is that they can have a few of them to try and attract more and more casual viewers. |

Do Channel 4 charge more for their 16-34s as they're more upmarket (or simply by trading on their - now somewhat tarnished - brand)? Can you go more granular and buy ABC1 16-34s? |

Doctor who should start at 6.15 with the voice at 7. Will the voice be launching before BGT? 13yh of April seems to early to me. I thought the voice would be launching next month. That would mean a head start. A head start would be good for it. cant see ITV letting it happen and the BBC schedulers usually get second best. Doctor Who I hope will do well! edit. Just had a look at the voice and the BBC say the live shows starts on the 8th of june. So lets work it out. last year excluding results shows it was a 12 episode series. there are 3 live shows this year they begin 8th of June. 12 take away 3 gives 9 weak's. count back 9 weeks from 8th June gives Saturday 6th April exactly one week before BGT. so according to my very sketchy working they start at a very similar point. I reckon after some moving and shaking they will both start on the same week. also the voice has an extra round this year I don't know if that means an extra week or not. But my prediction is 6th of April for the voice. Doctor who only has an 8 week run so I reckon it will start the same night as the voice but skip a week when Eurovision is on. that makes 9 weeks so Doctor who would finish the week before the Voice live shows start. Which is an okay prediction because the live shows will be longer and would need an extra long slot. I'm rambling sorry. ![]() BGT had 7 audition shows last year. If they do start on the 13th then that means they finish on the 25th of may. meaning live week starts on Sunday 26th with the final on the 1st of June. Now I have not factored in any sport disruptions there meaning I will be totally wrong and it renders that whole paragraph utterly pointless!!! What and idiot! I tried to look like I knew what I was talking about. Ken |

That's interesting that Great Night Out is not hitting the target audience too well. I would imagine many young men don't think to look on ITV1 9pm and so maybe some more niche targeted promotion to get the demo interested could help a potential 2nd series. |

I'm sure the provisional schedules posted in this thread had Let's dance starting next week at 7.10 and SNT startting at 7.30 or 7.45. Both now starting at 7pm with Let's Dance having England v France rugby as the lead-in and SNT following You've Been Framed. |

Yes, usually either to make it fit the timeslot (Escape to the Country was cut down to 30 minutes probably from 45) or to make a few edits to make it suitable for daytime (Only Fools and Horses).
