when i make things that need stock as I am veggie I always add tomato puree to the stock cube mix, makes it thicker and more tasty

We make chicken (sometimes lamb too) stock all the time. It doesn't take much effort to make, just a few minutes to put everything in the pot, then just leave it to do its stuff, making sure the water doesn't get too low.

We then freeze it in plastic takeaway containers and use it from the freezer.

You can't beat homemade stock, although I will use quality stock cube if we're out of the good stuff

If we have chicken I always use the carcase to make stock. I do use stock cubes, most seem to be very salty but there are low salt ones available from Knorr and the Marigold veg boulion is excellent.

I'm sure there are other low salt stock cubes available but those are the ones I have in the cupboard at the moment. The Knorr stock pots are good but I've only tried the really dark coloured beef ones so far and I found them excellent.

I make my own stock always since deciding that I didn't want to eat all the extra's that are in stock cubes these days
